holy hell yes!!!! So many reasons, the intro, the books love the older books. Some great authors and stories there. That intro though!!! Yeah I think old paper discolours due to chemicals used in older paper? Not sure, but it seems to happen to a lot, regardless of its environment. More effort was put into older books - artwork, layout. Also, none of that BIG LETTERS, two paragraphs per page, this is proper sized text where even a thin book has a lot of content.

Glad to see the sniff-o-meter, accumulation analytics, deep dive, object comparison test is still being done. Please store the results in a spreadsheet for yearly Christmas special where we talk about different whiffs in second hand books, the most common, the nicest, the worst, unidentifiable ones etc.

That first Frank Herbert book cover reminded me of some of your art as well. Actually, quite a few covers do. Patchwork Girl as well. Love the idea of looking at your past self's reviews as well - great stuff here John.

Think you confused Fred Hoyle with Fred Pohl. Hoyle was a scientist and writer, Pohl was an editor and writer. The lines on the bottom of the books are remainder marks, means the book was reduced to sell it.
