While the healthcare field and those within it have made tremendous leaps towards zero preventable deaths, it is not enough until zero, and only zero, is achieved. Joe Kiani, while recognizing all of the incredible efforts of healthcare providers around the world, is also disappointed that this goal has not come to fruition even though everything has been attempted, financial resources have been pushed in again and again and leaders have spoken up. He emphasizes the idea that zero preventable deaths ideology is a mindset, not a textbook. He acknowledges CHOC Children's Hospital for their incredible efforts in implementing all of the APSS and the tremendous positive patient outcomes since. He emphasizes the idea that healthcare professionals can no longer accept preventable deaths in the hospital as 'part of the job'. Kiani recognizes the 89 healthcare technology companies for their efforts in signing the Open Data Pledge and encourages more companies to follow. Because of the efforts in breaking down the silos in healthcare, it is possible to work together instead of in competition with one another so that the healthcare system as a whole can save every single life possible.
