In mountain biking, every corner is different! This means that each corner should be approached differently. Today Rich Payne is showing you how to approach three common types of corners that you may find on the trail. He shows you the different body positions, lines and issues that you may find with each corner.

I've seen loads of videos about cornering but this is one of the best. And not just because of the rubber duck!

Another channel recently said that the majority of mtbers are stuck as low to intermediate riders. As someone who has had an MTB since the early 90s it pained me to agree.
Videos like this are a big help.

I really needed this video! Simple and easy to follow. I was wondering why I was having such a hard time on steeper switchbacks the last two years. I thought I couldn't use my rear brake through the turn. Thanks for clearing that up.

I've kinda' sucked in turns/burms. Using the "lean the bike" method has started to improve my flat turns (learned it on GCN) but I was doing the same technique in burms. Excited to get out and try the in-line technique.

Excellent tutorial. I’ve been MTB’ing for years but my turns and jumps have always been mediocre at best. More recently with a new light e-MTB i have been having front tyre slip in flat and berm turns so this tutorial has highlighted all my errors.
Just gotta put them into practice more now

NIce video as ever. What about weight distribution between front and back and getting that boost of speed out of a corner. A lot of older videos stated weight the front wheel.

After a couple hours, and a black diamond trail on my hardtail, I was riding back to my truck and broke my collarbone.

I was on a green trail any 7 year old could ride, but hit a flat corner too fast and my back wheel slid out.

Shoulder first and my collarbone shattered.

3 weeks after surgery now, and I’m still months away from 100% on my bike.

Treat these flat turns with respect and don’t ever assume you’ll just slide out!

doesnt outside foot down in turns mean as soon as something isnt without any debris in the way... sticks, stones, roots, .. you would need to change that or you can hit it? wouldnt it be better than to use level pedals from the start so you wouldnt need to switch between the two?

I bought a private coaching at a bikepark. He said I always need to lean the outer foot down.

If you slide out with the outside pedal down, with all weight, it is much easier to put inside foot down, to avoid a crash

Turning Left feels naturally ok. Turning Right is more difficult to obtain a similar body feel and turn result. (Similar on motorcycle.)

Just an observation. His dropper post was down in all examples. This allows for more range of motion, but I don't push mine down for every corner. My legs would be smoked if I did!
