I wonder what a small pin dot in black and white that is mainly the latter would look like. It would generally read as a solid, but up close would carry the "dot theme" through. So glad you are at the stage where you can start sewing a little!

Never up early enough to catch Pat live, but here I am this morning. Coffee and quilty friends. Good way to greet the day.

Pat, I'm joining in! I'm one of those you mentioned who isn't doing any of the current sew-alongs, but this scrap buster is just what I need! I like a controlled scrappy look, so this morning I pulled a black with tiny multi-colored dots for the star points, and many light grey scraps for the backgrounds. All my 9 patch centers will have a white and black small print and bright colored squares. Having a great time sorting my scraps now!

So glad to see you are sewing. I know you can. The machine will do it and you just have to lay it out so you can guide the pieces. Yeah. I love your scrappy stars. I have been cutting 2 1/2 inch squares and now I know what I am doing with them. Yeah. I do love scrappy quilts. I usually use fabric dryer sheets and cover them with strips. They look good when you border them in black and put a big border around the edge. I use 49 blocks. 7x7 and get a really nice size. They cut to 6x9 and look great. That it my favorite go to block. When I don't know what to sew. Have a great day. Bye

I'm in for your scrappy stars! I never really liked the look of scrappy quilts, but the idea of one fabric for the star points really gives it the cohesiveness I like in a quilt. Now to prepare some scraps!

I will have to get a few community service quilts ready to turn in, and then I can begin making scrappy stars while catching up my other SALs and get my panel quilted and finished for my friend's birthday gift (in September). I'm in the "WOW! you have a lot of scraps!" Scrap quilts are my favorite quilts to make. August will be a fun month.

Thank you for another way to use all those 2.5 inch squares left over from my multiple traffic jam quilt tops. Yet again I am in awe of your energy and inspiration. If I had two wrists down, I would be laying around with people waiting on me hand and foot! I'm signing off..in search of a perfect star point fabric!!

Yea for sewing after so long! So glad. Hand stitching & crochet are how I exercise my hands for arthritis. Best kind of therapy. Have a great weekend.

For the star quilt maybe grey sashing with posts made from the colored scraps that were used.

Yes I am doing the Scrappy Stars. For a few years I have been making 9 patches from leftover fabric when I finish quilts and projects. I seen this pattern and knew this was how I was going to use my patches. Have 56 9 patches already made. A memory quilt for myself. Love it!

I ordered a ruler from FQS to make half square triangles with no lines, no squaring up. I'm eager to try it out on the scrappy stars. When it gets here.I would love to use up some more scraps. I may also make a star as a table topper for Christmas and maybe a table runner for Halloween. And maybe a small quilt of just random scraps. No idea what the sashing will be.

Yes I will do the scrappy star. Been needing to go through my HUGE bin of scraps. Will take some time but since I retired when the COVID started I've got lots of time.
