How to Use EVERY Tier 1 Starter Item to IDENTIFY The Ghost In Phasmophobia

Tip for the ghost writing: If a ghost has the ability to write in the book, it will prioritize that. So if it chucks the book at you without writing anything, you can rule out ghost writing.

I actually use the tier 1 thermometer as a starting item to find the ghost room. The thermometer will tell you if you’re getting hotter or colder in the proximity. I’ve been tricked a couple times with the room being in an adjacent room but I’m basically able to find the room with 95% accuracy, other 5% being the room adjacent. Still need to drop it in order to see if freezing temps tho, takes up to 7 min.

as a low spec player, knowing that freezing temps is only when its negative is a game changer. i cant count how many times i got fooled because i thought the temps were slightly above 0.

I've been using the EMF reader a bit incorrectly. I was just moving room to room indiscriminately to see if I got a reading. Being sure to check out disturbed items and noises with the reader makes a huge difference. Thanks! This was helpful.

BEST VIDEO TUTORIALS!!! There's good videos out there, but they're not really beginner friendly. Most of the time, there videos are information overload. I like that you start off using ghost hunting equipment that a beginner would start off with and going step by step with each item, it's been super helpful. Thank you 👍🏽

On amateur mode where the map starts with the power on I've always had great luck finding the ghost room with the thermo. It's almost a given unless there are distinct interactions immediately. If it starts with the power off then you have to use other methods to find the room first and then use the thermo to confirm once you have an idea. 1700 hrs in this game since day one and my ears are still the best locater by far. This is a great beginner's guide video, btw! You explain things very clearly in a way that new players can understand.

this helped me out tremendously. i had an idea on how most things work but especially knowing that emf interacts with doors or objects that have been moved is great to know. before i just walked through the rooms and hoped it would spike but then it eventually only spiked during a hunt wich is sub optimal. phasmophobia always seemed wonky and random to me but this is definitely gonna be way more easy now. the game is so vague with explaining things and all the mechanics so new players like me struggle a lot. thanks so much! im so ready to grind this game with my friends now

You can sometimes find Ghost Orbs before opening the entrance to the level and activating the timer. You just need to find any windows and look through them with a video camera. An excellent way to catch Ghost Writing if you're a van-dweller like me is to stick a sound sensor near it and/or a video cam. If you use both, you may actually hear the ghost writing in the book from the sound sensor and even if you miss it, you can tell if there is writing if the pencil was moved from it's starting position.

I had no end of frustration with the EMF reader until the first time I saw true EMF 5. The needle frequently would go to 5 so I'd select EMF 5 only to discover the ghost did not have EMF 5 as evidence. The needle needs to go well past the 5 to actually be EMF 5 evidence.

I'm returning to the game since there were 5 ghost types only, and I was so confused on why items are different (types) and why there are so many ghost types now. Despite the limited types of ghosts back then I used to be able to detect evidence on the fly but now I'm always getting the wrong ghost type. Freezing temp used to be based on breath now actually it has to be -, hiding while hunts are much more complicated now and I respect the developers for making it more challenging "realistic" but I had so much more fun back when it was "unrealistic". Been getting carried with high prestige people in insanity mode to get more items/money, but I sure miss my $380k ;)

Fun fact: they changed the tier 1 and tier 2 UV light, so back then you had a better UV at 1 then 2.
