Quick 857DW+ vs. WEP 2-in-1 Hot Air Test - LFC#239

It probably goes without saying that a Hot Air Station in a different class to my current one would be better - but I think there's a lot of value in doing comparisons so you can see and understand first-hand the difference that tools can make in one situation or another. Sometimes good tools are just a quality of life upgrade - sometimes they're necessary to progress.

Love your content Adamant IT. I’m personally not into soldering etc, but videos like this show the amount of effort, time and resources required to effectively repair a simple faulty chip etc . It also shows people why things cost what they do, especially when people think simply “it’s a $5 chip and a few mins work” why should I pay $xxx for repairs. Like many jobs, it’s what is done behind these scenes eg setup costs of equipment and job training etc which you also have to take into account. Buy the best you can afford for the feature set you need, not want. You will be disappointed far fewer times than buying cheap. Your work will typically reflect the results as well. 25 years of machine shop experience. As you mature in any given industry the opportunity to upgrade and improve will become easier, but even at my stage in life I still stick to my opening statement.

Bought my first bass guitar from a pawn shop for £120 but it was actually a decent one. your hand is a great temperature measurement, saves buying any temperature measuring equipment FFS I agree the 857DW may well be better as it is a dedicated unit, but I have found the wired heat pump adequate for most work where a heat gun is required for hobby use

Great demonstration. I always found my cheap hot air gun (just like your WEP design) not really hot and took quick a lot time to take out components. I have put 957DW+ ( RMB 430 ) in my basket list on Taobao but I haven't confirmed the order for a long time because I couldn't found any reason to pay around three times in price to get this one. Your this video helped me to make decision to confirm my order. I don't like the handle design of 857DW+, so I chose 957DW+ instead. Thumbs up for you.

I've just got the Quick hot air station you used here. I watched this video when it was uploaded but I hadn't realised I'd picked the same one when I put the order down a couple of days ago. I don't have any jobs for it yet but I hope it will be good when I need it. I have a couple of SMD practice PCBs so I'm going to get some practice in with it and also some manual soldering too with my TS100, which I have no problem with and that if anything I find rather easy.

Spot on with the guitar reference there Graham. I started with a shite guitar from Argos, I now have a gorgeous Gibson Les Paul that I got mega cheap because it needed repairs.
