Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 22 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. Below I will showcase some of the playlists on this channel:

I have a playlist of metal detecting videos to teach metal detecting. The videos in the playlist below are specifically made to teach the skills and mindset to becoming a great metal detectorist.

I am a treasure hunter. So in addition to metal detecting, I go mudlarking at sites in New York City. Think of mudlarking as metal detecting without a metal detector.

I bought a Nokta Gold Kruzer … question Is it as effective for silver as gold at deeper depths on the beach?

I have an xterra pro as a backup. If you hunt in all metal mode and all tones is a great machine and does very well. Listen to the tones, don't watch the numbers. I used it at an old homesite loaded with nails and it did a great job picking out relics in the iron.

Merrill, your videos, voice, inflections, explanations and overall enjoyable demeanor are the best of all YouTube detector channels. Excellent!

One thing we dont need is all the bells and whistles on a pinpointer. Another screen to look at? No, I need it to pinpoint an object, that's all. I've already chosen to dig it.

I’m looking to buy a White’s Surfmaster PI… I watched a guy pull a ton of targets I couldn’t hear with my Equinox 900 off a beach I just hit. Those PI machines handle the black sands like a champ.

Stright talking, no BS, funny, a detecterist for the people. Your a asset and a great knowledge provider. Keep doing what your doing. 👍. Big Clive. England.

Thanks Merrill. I bought an X-Terra Pro a couple of weeks.
The numbers were all over rhe place. For me and in the videos i watched.
People say ignore them, just use tones.

Or cut your sensitivity in half. I know numbers aren't everything but they ought to be in the ballpark, not ranging from the 30s to 80s on one target.

Took it back to my dealer and swapped it for a Nokta Score.
Time will tell but you were spot on when you compared it to a Vanquish for simplicity.

I love my Simplex plus but I am definitely leaning towards upgrading to a legend

So.... Metal detecting is now a sport where we keep score.... Is this a full contact sport ??? Or is this just a " touch" kind of scoring 🤔 can I tackle a fellow detectorist when I see one ? So many

I have a Legend and a 700 and my beach experiences have been pretty much that they are similar in what they pick up and depths, though the Legend has not had as much noise chatter in higher sensitivity than the 700. Each one has its quirks and practice is the best teacher.

Sometimes I really really wonder if minelab snuck in some sort of proprietary multi frequency thing on the xterra pro. Having used one (also in myrtle beach) I was shocked at how quiet that machine was in the Salt water. Obviously minelab claims it's single frequency but I really question its legitimacy sometimes.

Hello Merrill, first of all I have to say that I like your videos. Can I get your take on the following ?
I live in the Netherlands and I have been searching since 1991 . I have had only Whites detectors .The last two were the Eagle Spectrum and XLT. I didn't do any searching for the last 10 years but I want to start again now and then ( not so much as in the '90s ) . I noticed that Whites is gone and a lot of new detectors are out there. My XLT screen shows lines and I can't find any replacement on the internet. I can buy a second hand DFX for €400 but would this be a good choice because of the choices in newer detectors.... What could be better ? My budget is around €600 . I can spend more but I know that I am not going to use the detector that much. Maybe I will be searching on the beach for a change ( the XLT wasn't that stable on the beach ) but most of all I will be in parks / Forrest. What's your recommendation ?

Greetings
Aart

Could the xterra pro be bbs technology.

Thank you 🙏 for keeping us in touch with the latest in detectors and cutting thru the hype. I love your channel. I have the first gen Simplex Plus and thought when I earned it, the Legend was my next move. Now Nokta & the X-Terra Pro have muddied the waters. My concern with the X-Terra Pro is Minelab’s previous issues with leaks & broken coil mount ears. I don’t believe Nokta has had such issues. I’ll be checking out your X-Terra Pro review. Dave in PA

I've been using an exterra pro since March. This is by far the best detector I've owned, although the last one i owned was a Fisher 1266X but it cost over $400 back in the early 90's. They got i hunt with has an equinox 600 and i can hunt anywhere he can and find just as much if not more sometimes. It has some things to get used to like the bottle caps or the vdi jumping but 90% of the time i can tell the difference between copper pennies, clad dimes, silver dimes, clad quarters and silver quarters by the vdi and tone. It's pretty stable in 5khz when it hits a silver coin. I've found my best finds ever since March with the Xterra pro it's been a game changer for me.

Are there metal detectors that have no target id?
