God bless you too! I’m so glad to know this as I’ve chosen to make antique silverware my daily choice. This is great!

Thank you for this. My dear late Grandmother was born in 1927 and I have a very old but extremely tarnished serving spoon of hers. I will try your method and let you know.

Nice. Baking powder has baking soda in it (plus other ingrediants), so that's probably why it worked. BTW - I saw a video of a lady who did the same with aluminum and salt (no baking soda/powder)

Baking soda is cheap and works much better. I wouldn't recommend baking powder, but I appreciate your time and effort.

Ok... this is garbage, sorry, but those end results aren't clean. I own several sets of silver service. One, spend $5 and buy a tub of Wright's silver cream polish. Don't get the one in the bottle, don't buy another brand... most are junk and lots of brands will damage your silver. It takes a little work, because with silver cream you have to do each individual piece.. but if you think this is the correct method, you probably shouldn't own silver flatware. If you clean your silver with Wright's silver cream, it will be shiny without black spots like this. You may still have scratches if the silver was heavily used, if this is the case you can either take it to a professional to be buffed or do it yourself, but it does require buying some equipment. I have never ever seen a magic way to polish silver that actually works, it either like this one doesn't clean it very well or like Tarn-X dip will damage the actual silver if you leave it to long or after a few dips. Wash your silver, this ensure there is no food particles or dirt that will cause grit that will scratch your silver when polishing. Then apply silver cream and some elbow grease, rinse to see what you missed, polish until shiny. Then wash, dry immediately, water left on silver to air dry will damage the surface too and can cause permanent damage that is so deep in the silver you can't get it out. Once completely dry, store silver in an air tight box, this will keep the silver from tarnishing so quickly. My Mother wraps hers in plastic wrap, then puts it in a box, this will keep it even longer. If you use it daily, you probably will never have to polish it, the constant washing keeps it from tarnishing. Although, you have to hand wash, silver will be damaged in the dishwasher. If you are looking for a set of old silver, feel it, even if it is tarnished, it should still feel smooth, if it feels rough, don't buy it, most likely someone has ran it through the dishwasher and it will never look good again!

I also have a large set of silverware, taking it in these small numbers would take days to finish,
Would a foil dish be okay for bigger lots?

Think vinegar will help clean them better?

I use baking soda and salt. I’m not sure why Salt but I was shown to use that and it seems to work. I’ll have to try just baking powder and see what happens.

Baking powder and toothpaste work very well

The baking powder is an acid
Baking soda is a base
Probably should use the baking soda
