So many great songs were destroyed in the loudness wars. Californication was one of the loudest albums ever made.

One of the greatest songs to ever exist in my life hands down

This song was always meant to be the triumph of the rhythm section and this is finally delivered here. Frusciante was only ever meant to accompany this killer bass, and let Chad drive the song on in true Bonham style.

I heard this when my parents were getting divorced, I cried for hours bc my parents were splitting apart and I felt completely ripped apart by this. This song helped me feel better about it after awhile

Once translated, the meaning of the lyrics of the song Otherside from Red Hot Chili Peppers is a meaningful form of tribute to former guitarist Hillel Slovak, who died of a heroin overdose.

My son didn’t love being human, he didn’t love being here. He always seen the Pathetic mess of the way the world is being treated and the HUGE EGOS that run this world.
So he bowed out at 34

This is the song that introduced me to the Red Hot Chili Peppers; as I was 12 in the early 2000. I've always wondered when a "remastered" version of this album will ever come out; but... You've done an amazing job de-compressing the highly compressed sh*t that was put out 22 years ago. Needless to say; albums like Black Sabbath's 13 and Pet Shop Boys' Electric, even in 2013, are still loud as f*ck. Such a shame current producers do not learn from history and tend to repeat it.

How long, how long will I slide?
Separate my side, I don't
I don't believe it's bad
Slit my throat it's all I ever
I heard your voice through a photograph
I thought it up and brought up the past
Once you know you can never go back
I gotta take it on the other side
Centuries are what it meant to me
A cemetery where I marry the sea
Stranger things could never change my mind
I gotta take it on the other side
Take it on the other side
Take it on, take it on
How long, how long will I slide?
Separate my side, I don't
I don't believe it's bad
Slit my throat it's all I ever
Pour my life into a paper cup
The ashtray's full and I'm spillin' my guts
She wants to know, am I still a slut?
I've got to take it on the other side
A scarlet starlet and she's in my bed
A candidate for a soul mate bled
Push the trigger and pull the thread
I gotta take it on the other side
Take it on the other side
Take it on
Take it on
How long, how long will I slide?
Separate my side, I don't
I don't believe it's bad
Slit my throat it's all I ever
Turn me on, take me for a hard ride
Burn me out, leave me on the other side
I yell and tell it that it's not my friend
I tear it down, I tear it down
And then it's born again
How long, how long will I slide?
Separate my side, I don't
I don't believe it's bad
Slit my throat it's all I ever
How long, I don't, I don't believe it's bad
Slit my throat it's all I ever

I used to hum this song to my newborn baby niece to stop her from crying...

There's a lot of magic that happens in this song. There's designed discombobulations that suddenly merge into a cohesive force, multiplying the impact

I never really cared for the slower, less intense RHCP songs but this hits different.

I can take them or leave them. Grew up in the 80s/90s. They have 6-8 really solid tracks in their catalog. This is one of them. Great vocal harmonies.

One of my buddies in high school asked if this song was about taking D in the A and I’ve never been able to think of anything else every time I hear this song ever since then. Still a good tune.

Merci de m'avoir introduit à l'univers musical d'un groupe sur la musique duquel j'ignorais tout mais dont je connaissais pourtant le nom.
