I like the aviary updates. I know you don't want to screw the perch onto the door so you can close it. You can screw the perch at the angle you have it and screw a brace to the inner side of the door so it looks like the letter Y. So it will only be attached to the door and float while you open and close the door. Perch will have enough clearance and can be used while closed.

I had a tiny bungie type cord that was for putting around the ankle to keep your pants from the sprocket and chain while biking. Check out bike gear or a bike shop.That will hold up your branch .
