How to discover and explore features in the margins in your carp fishing

I show you the techniques I use to fully understand what’s going on along a margin, what you can expect to find and how to fish to them.

The margins around a lake are not static. The spots and features you can find along the margins grow and develop over time. Understanding what these areas look like under the surface will help you catch more carp. This video is not necessarily about fishing at close range or fishing at half a wrap. This applies if you’re fishing along a margin or across to a margin.

Another valuable video Mr Collins . Nice for someone to show that not all carp are caught at 120+yards .👍

Carp love margins and over the years I’ve caught many hundreds of carp from them. The techniques outlined in this video won’t be of much use to you if you are visiting a water as a one off or for a short period of time but if there’s a lake that you intend to spend a serious amount of time on, then understanding the marginal features will give you a massive edge.

That was a very interesting bit of information Matthew. Something I will remember for if and when the venue and my time there allows.
Thank you for the video. I always look forward to seeing the content you put up for us.

Another informative vid! Fished on Monday and did a depth check with very flat bottomed lead, Dropped my unbaited line and hook with band right in the edge. Got everything ready to fish lifted my line and there was a 3ib carp on it! tried to emulate with bait but nothing until I packed up and a proper bigun swirled the water at my feet! Had a great day until my Bakers Cyst burst on the bank!

I agree, if the lake you fish is not a silt hole and you plan to have a campaign there it is very helpful to investigate bottom with feets. I can also sometimes feel if there is still bait left on the bottom with my feets. It also makes it very fast and easy to bait using waders.

Hi. I'm a beginner angler, and I frequently pull out my rigs with a tangle. I tried helicopter rig too, and it doesnt helped. Maybe you could do a video about how to avoid tangles. I think its a very major thing in carp fishing, and you one of the best in youtube who actually explain the how to, and why to do things clearly. Just an idea.Keep up with the good videos, we appreciate it.

Good solid advice, , simple ideas put into practice,
Without buying the latest innovations from tackle manufacturers, ,
How would you approach a water which is around 4/5 foot deep throughout and at least 6" of anorobic silt all over?

I'm recovering from having had a brain tumour, my balance isn't good at all. There is no way I can get into the water to feel the bottom. I've fallen into the lake after tripping over a bivvy peg, it wasn't good to feel how cold the water was in November.
