Everyone Hates Discord's Active Developer Badge!

Discord's Active Developer Badge has been a massive headache for me, Discord, developers, and users. At this point I should just say that the badge has been a headache for everyone. In this audio-visual format, I will explain to you why Discord made this controversial badge so damn easy to get. I will also talk about the upcoming scams that are targeting users that want this oh so sacred badge.

Oh I almost forgot! I also talk about how I made a big whoopsies and also my motives behind the video (because yes, there is something beyond the motive of money).

My ex wife has finally filed for divorce and according to my lawyer I am apparently not allowed to cut her brake lines on her car. Somewhat disappointing because she took that vehicle from me and in my eyes it's my property. The new Discord badge is the Divorced Dad badge. I can't wait for it to come out!

NOTE: If you followed my tutorial for the givemebadge.exe, that file was NOT a virus. However, I have removed that part of the video because I don't want people assuming that every exe file is safe.

As an actual bot dev, I was a bit saddened at first by how easy it was to get, but now I get it!
Welcome to all people learning how to code remember, the most important thing is to not give up!

as an actual developer myself im pretty happy you made this video
also to anyone starting to develop a bot
try learning basic python or javascript
and then just watch some basic tutorials
and also just learn by urself
it helps a lot

You know what? I've had a verified bot for a few years, so I think it would be nice to have something a little bit more special, but I kind of like the way Discord is doing this. Deep down, I really don't care if I have a special badge on Discord, and it's nice to see that people are getting into coding and stuff. Ever since I started learning, I've found so many uses for it. In this day and age, It's just a good thing to have some knowledge in. Sure, there are gonna people who just want the badge, and have no interest in coding, but I think there will be people who will actually find value in coding because of this.

They said that we should stop caring about pixels on our screen but they complain about everyone having it making it worthless?

the thing that's a bit annoying to me, as a general developer, is that "active developer" doesn't reflect someone working on discord bots specifically. i only got the badge because i felt like it'd almost be weird for me not to have a badge showing im an active programmer, as a programmer

Ive been a bot dev for 3 years now and I was a little bit sad on how easy it was to get the badge. But thats okay, since I want more people to learn programming aswell. Its not easy but its rewarding when you get it!

As a person that start learn how to code because of discord rpc 2 years ago using javascript. I can confirm that the discord statements are true, I'm hooked by how fun it was to code and the feeling of joy after your code start to work after several error lol. Now I'm a junior front end developer.

they should make "The Cooler Developer Badge" that discord themselves give

An alternative is using something like Autocode which provides snipets of codes to add functions to your bot.
there's a free plan which can be used for the active badge itself.

And if you like it, you still can code on the platform (which include a whole IDE, solid hosting solution, documentations ...) and either share your work or host your own bot.
(also you can get credits for hosting when your shared work is being used by others)

Note : i am not affiliated with them, i am using their services and been on it since their beta, always (well not always but it is) been great for hosting purposes, snipets can be modified, you can check if something is fishy and often they check for malicious code, everything is clear from coding to plans.

I love that you called it an SVG rather than a JPG or PNG because you know what you're talking about.

As a developer, I wonder why the badge wasn't something that was given to people who had discord applications (bots) on their account/portal page. They could also have used some github integration or something to see if the dev was actively contributing to the bot they created.

Im a bot developer myself, and after this badge is released, my own friend even wanted to get the badge "to look cool", it just makes me sad to realise discord users would do anything to get badges.

everyone is smart enough to code. you just need to get the one moment of understanding

Maybe Discord should separate vanity badges (hypesquad, nitro, the green developer badge, etc.) and badges that actually make the bearer more trustworthy (like discord staff, big bot developer, etc.). They would be shown separately in the profile (in 2 rows maybe?).

Although this is an entire marketing scheme done by Discord, I do feel deep down some liking for the new badge and their reasoning behind it. Programming is underrated and there are many capable minds out there to become great programmers. Nice video NTTS!

Honestly, I’m glad you addressed that Discord is encouraging people to learn to code, even if it is just for a “stupid badge”. The only reason I became interested in programming is because I initially wanted to build a Discord bot.
Once I got into programming, I understood how much fun it really is, and I am definitely happy that I tried programming Discord bots, to start with.
