art trick for easily drawing hands 🙌☠️ #shorts

hands!! I’m still not amazing at them to be honest, but here’s some things that helped me draw them a little more easily.

another piece of advice: Your hand drawings won't improve much if the only time you are drawing hands is in your regular art, especially if you are drawing full body figures on a4 or a5 paper, the hands are going to be small and hard to draw. Doing a few bigger studies on big paper helps A LOT. My art has been improving really drastically ever since i've started to size up my drawings so they take up all the paper. Fill your pages!

My trick is to draw all my characters with Animal Crossing hands 😌

Also a tipp I learned that has been suuuuper helpful: the length of the longest finger is around (or slightly longer) the same length as the palm

this only works for when the fingers are touching, so here’s a tip for drawing hands with all the fingers spread apart!:
Draw the palm/base part of the hand without fingers, and then draw arcs / upside down parabolas to mark where the tips of the fingers will be. depending on the level of detail, you can do multiple rows of arcs to mark the finger joints as well :) it creates a more cohesive flow to the hand because you’re marking out its gesture, rather than each finger one by one. hope this helps, because I definitely struggle with it as well
another BIG tip is to study from real life. just draw tons and tons of hands in different poses!! trust me, it’ll help way more than you think

LOL i’m a total nerd when it comes to drawing hands, they’re my favorite thing to draw so i was totally expecting this to be bad advice and comment something snarky like “or, just do studies”, but this is actually awesome advice. drawing stylized hand outlines is SO fun, and hands look so cool as silhouettes too. this is awesome T_T

What helped me was literally drawing my own hand. I drew it in different poses and used gestures and building off them to create my hands. Also doing the poses myself body-wise helps too.

Tip: if going for a more realistic/ realistic stylized hand, a typical hand is about the length of a face.

Although I see where you’re going, I prefer to draw my hands by making them look like mittens. Then I start adding lines for the fingers.

Here’s a great tip: Give them long sleeves so you don’t have to draw them at all :D

Alternatively make them a cheerleader so you can hide the hands with Pom poms or make them shy so they hide their hands behind their back

One thing that I'm trying to work on in my art is both learning better anatomy and also learning how to simplify that anatomy. I recommend looking at and doing studies of other art and the way that certain things are stylized. The way you draw and the amount of detail you include is based on what style you draw in. So you don't have to draw super realistic hands if that's not your style, just make sure they read as hands.
