Tesla is making waves with its strategic shift, introducing more affordable Standard Range versions of the Model S and Model X, a surprise move for premium-priced flagship vehicles. These Standard Range models come at a reduced price of $78,490 and $88,490 for the Model S and Model X, respectively, raising questions about Tesla's strategy. Surprisingly, these vehicles are software-limited versions, maintaining the premium image of the Models S and X while appealing to a broader audience. But what's the driving force behind Elon Musk's decision, and how does it impact competitors in the electric vehicle market? This video explores Tesla's unexpected move, its potential benefits, and the changing landscape of the EV market. #tesla #elonmusk #ModelS #ModelX

Do you think Elon Musk's decision to release a cheaper Tesla Model S and Model X hurt or help their premium brand image? What other benefits do the Standard variants have? Be sure to watch:

The Model S has been around for over a decade and I still enjoy looking at them. Awesome car.

It's in the Tesla master plan.
You should mention that, because it brings all the price cuts into perspective.

If I could afford it, I would definitely get the Model X standard range. Space>range for my family's situation.

I's a good idea for Tesla to add range options. We love choices. In addition to the benefits you mentioned,
if these cars were traded in to Tesla . . . then Tesla could possibly sell them as used long range cars by unlocking the software.

But where is the hatchback version? The 3 an d Y plateform can support a hatchback version also.

I think it's smart to narrow the price gap between their low-priced and their high-priced products. But I hate the idea of software-limited battery performance. I think it's disingenuous. After the battery warranty expires, will a replacement battery be cheaper than the unlimited one? I doubt it.

We need a market for Jailbreaking software like we do with iPhone and Android.

This video is actually pretty good, summarizes nicely what other Tesla channels have been saying.

But, like most all of the other Tesla channels, you didn't make one mention (to my recollection) Tesla's remarkable remarkable ability to reduce costs.

Everyone get that Tesla lowered prices. Seems NO ONE gets why they are able to and keep their margins. Its hard to find a stand out channel.

Base model S (standard rang) without any extra trims is less than $80K. Will it not qualify for $7, 500 federal tax credit?

If they could get them down to $75k that would be even better.

Great move tbh. Why? Although it looks like competition with the higher end X and S, it is not! I bought my LR just after the preserntation of the Refresh cars. Paid it 90.000€ in Belgium, Europe. Then they closed the ordering window in Europe and when it came back online my car suddenly did cost 115000€ (today's price has been lowered already a bit to 108k€. I am certain that my original price was already a profitable price for Tesla. If you deduct 21% VAT and 1000 € shipping cost, this means that Tesla sold my car for a net price of 74k€. At the timer of my order the exchange rate of the $ vs the € was 1.05$ for 1€, which means that the sales price of a Refresh S with a reasonable profit was $70k. Conclusion : i wont be surprised that the price will go further down for both variants with another 10k $/€. This will only happen when the current sales advantage has stopped generating additional sales. As TMIO said in the video, X and S are contributing only marginally to the quarterly Tesla profit.
Additionally by further lowering the price gap, S and X will come within reach of the demanding Y and 3 buyer.
To conclude : MY S IS SIMPLY THE BEST CAR I EVER HAD (and i have driven with the full lineup since March 2019.

I’m still waiting for an ultra long range model X! While I’m not opposed to the thinking of lowering the costs with software limitations I think there is an untapped market at the other extreme. When you consider the numerous variables that can effect range, weather, WIND, speed, etc, why isn’t part of the luxury definition to have much greater USABLE range. Why not 450 miles of range of which 400 is actually usable. I don’t do “X” (twitter) but if I did I’d give Elon an earful about defining luxury. Give me a 5 seat wood facia in a X Plaid with 450 miles of range that proves how superior Tesla’s tech really is!

Decreasing the cost of the S and X also makes it more likely people will buy FSD on the cheaper cars, and still has the option in the future to unlock the additional range and/or performance.

We have a long range Model Y and have often wished we could seat 6 adults comfortably. If Tesla would offer a "Minnie" Van we would buy it else an X (long range) is in our future. Hoping the Cyber Truck comes in a 6 seat configuration then we would get it as well, but if only 5 seat we'll let our deposit go (we have a 6 seat truck now).

What about if they are using the same battery as the long range (just software limited) then they don't show any battery degradation.
