When you're driving a hybrid, or EV car without an OEM spare through remote Utah desert and blow a tire. The SOS feature on the iPhone is a miracle.

Verizon next year is allowing texting via satellite. It’s absolutely mind blowing that a smartphone can connect to a satellite in space.

Apple with iOS 18 will allow you to send messages as well to anyone running iOS 18. Had a chance to try it out and it was awesome.

Thank you for talking about this! This has become so important that I am very disappointed in Samsung that they have not caught up to Apple and now the Google pixel. This is a life-saving feature that should not be omitted on any phone

Elon Musk says SpaceX's Starlink Direct To Cell system for mobile phones won't cost users a dime when it comes to connecting to emergency services. “Can't have a situation where someone dies because they forgot or were unable to pay for it, ” the SpaceX CEO said in a tweet on Tuesday.

Just have to say, another type of emergency, we had a earth quake in Portugal a week ago. There was only talk that some Android phone alerted people. iPhone did not alert anyone.

Ya android fan for years. I use both but the sos satalite feature sold me. I no longer buy samsungs or pixel. Apple for the win. Satalite messages should be standard. The fact places still dont have cell coverage is ridiculous in 2024.

Remember some SOS really SOS. I mean the person may be unconscious. So calibrating the phone to match the satellite sometime cannot do it.

I just don't get it. We pay a lot for these phones. Also this is a critical emergency solution. So why isn't it a proper included solution for emergencies. The tech is there and then oh sorry you were lost and injured and need help but you haven't paid so die... At least in worst case there should be an after pay in case you so when you need to used it you can.
