I like it, I like it when people underestimate the British, because it's handy, and it makes for one hell of a shock, every, single, time.

Then our government leave them to rot, after putting their lives on the line. My friend died in Iraq within days of landing there. R.I.P. CARL SMITH (Smithy) ❤

UK troopers are amazing, always lighthearted in desperate situations. From US Army soldier.

My mother is active service with 28 years in the British Reserves; my dad is a former Paratrooper with a ton of jobs under his belt, he grew up in eastern Europe because of my granda, who'd also served in the Army and retired as a Colonel.

I'm looking at carrying on the family tradition and having people support me to get in as I know a guy who's just joined into PARAs and he'll be in for a rough shock when the time comes to get him deployed to either the front in Ukraine or Gaza.

Insane and amazing how the British has held up this long. I'm proud to be a Brit.

I trained with the 2PWRR IN Latvia back in 14. Although we defeated them in a war game they have my utmost respect. Top blokes all of em. Even their padre was going for PT runs with them every morning. Just great dudes and far FAR more professional than us yanks. I realized the cowboy allegations were true when I worked with them. But hey. It works for us and their methods work for them. Still friends with a few of them

Our military class especially special services are the only great thing left in this country. Only thing to be proud of. Best in the world.

When your island has been seeded for 2000 years by some of the most badass warrior cultures to have ever existed it’s no surprise these men can be moulded into the epitome of what it means to be a *warrior*

One overlooked factor which i think makes the British Army so successful, i think, is its small size and absence of conscripts. Fewer posts means you can be more selective and the people in it really do want to be in it. So much so that they often make it their entire personality and can't adapt to life outside. Which is great for the army because you get 100% dedication.
Our great failures have been when the army has been enormous and unselective, as in Malaya against Japan. Our disproportionate successes have been when the army is very small and professional e.g. the Falklands campaign.

He's right, go to the Brecons when it's been raining every day for the last week, which is quite often for south Wales, you'll have a miserable time. That's where UKSF are selected, surefire way to find the toughest guys when you select them there.

The SAS / SBS have proven time and again that they are levels above. The war games against the US special forces has become a bit of banter for our lads. Which squad can win in record time. 100 british marines smashed up 1, 500 US troops in a war game. There's a reason they used to say "if you see a cigarette on your front lines, prepare for a UK assault. If you find a cigarette 2 miles into your own territory, you're fucked cause the SAS are here". Not the exact quote by any means, but gets the point across

Anyone who's spent a weekend hiking in Wales knows how rough the weather/terrain can be. There's a reason the SAS train there.
