reminds me of the old Renault Alonso. His full lock style whilst on michelins allowed him to essentially understeer into a corner and burst out of a corner. we saw it so many times against schumacher. nowadays with the new style cars and slicks it simply doesnt work as well. to be fair moving to McLaren in 2007 showed he couldnt apply the same style due to a diff type of car but my point still stands. when you see such a dominant driver using their skills to win then the car changes and you see decline its such a shame

This is exactly why Schumacher and Hamilton struggled in the latter years of their career. The cars simply aren't suited to them. Hamilton is very good at his braking and Schumacher is very good at his throttle control

100kg less, 20% size smaller that's what we need for fun side by side racing!

Hopefully 2026 cars help him out more because since they are becoming smaller and lighter from then

You know..

In the 90's we had light cars, insane sounds and one heck of alot of fun.

V10 or V12's anybody..?

We nearly all hate the big heavy cars so definitely not alone

I was watching yesterday Hakkinen vs Schumacher at Spa 2000. Those were the days. What a glorious sound, not these fast vacuum cleaners.

Reminds me when I was younger, and we modded the cars with stiffer suspension and bigger rims and lower profile tires. The grip level increases over the original specs, but boy were they bouncy and when the car loses grip, it's like on a knives edge. Where else on the smaller rims and higher profile tires, while the grip is less, the car rolls more into the corner, but gradually loses the grip instead of sudden snap. As an older man now, I do prefer the smaller rims and higher profile tires, from the jarring ride of big rims and thin profile tires.. 😅

I think this was true for Schumacher and Vettel. As the cars changed, they no longer suited their driving styles.

It would have been interesting to see Jensen Button in this era, but I agree with Hamilton that the cars are big and clumsy. The 07 or 08 McLaren was a work of art and very nimble. Bring back short wheel base.

Same thing Magnussen is fighting, where it's Hulkenbergs natural style.

He's going to love the Ferrari then... It's one of the cars that has chronic understeer and when you setup it to avoid understeer it starts to oversteer for no reason. lol

Rules favour a driver style over another since ever. We're just on a point it doesn't favour him. Apart from the last decade, where it did favour him

Hamilton wants 2026 F1 cars to be as light as 2002 spec cars.

I don't think anyone who has "natural driving style" is making it to F1. Adaptability is too important

Similar story to Button when they introduced the temperature sensitive pirellis and the aero regs evolved to take advantage of late sharp braking and 'v' corner attitude required to generate fast lap. Button struggled with this as it wasn't his preferred style, ironically now he would probably be excelling with ground effect cars!

Shit cars. Too heavy and too complicated!
