Показать описание
2018 Briggs and Stratton 450 series no start. This lawn mower was returned to Walmart, customer stated no start after very little use. We bought it "as is" non-running from the store manger for $20 reg price $150 new. In this video I will show you how to clean a plastic B&S carburetor, for this is the third time this summer I have seen the same problem. DO NOT attempt repairs in this video without a licensed certified small engines tech present.

Anyone who uses an impact gun on plastic deserves everything they get....

Thank you so much for this video.

When I brought the lawn mower out from the shed after a long winter (at the first sign of sun) I was troubled to find it not starting up.

To YouTube I went, and your video I found.

I’d admit to being dubious as to whether your directions would solve the matter, especially I being a Brit and fear that there would maybe be a difference in my model engine to yours.

However, after just half an hour of following your advice, the lawn mower was up and running and I felt like a mechanical hero.

I doff my hat to you, sir. Thank you.

Thank you. It helped just clean sponge and carburetor. It was working though but lost a lot of "power" before.

I did this exact job today following your procedure and it started right up and purrs like a kitten... disappointed that Briggs and Stratton uses so much plastic for carbs.... great video

Pretty good Sir - however - inside the carb has the removable multi jet "thing" which is actually called a "cartridge". The center "tower" is removable and has Briggs' equivalent to an emulsion tube. In that tube are some very tiny holes which are used to emulsify (finely spray) the fuel into the air which then is burned for start-up and power in the cylinder. If the gas you put into the tank comes from a gas can the chances are high that you have picked up some junk from somewhere in that can and that junk is now in the fuel tank - then going to the carb. Those tiny holes get plugged and the fuel just stops at any time from FIRST start-up onward.. Absolutely will not start. Clean out the tiny holes in the center section, the other holes you mentioned and the top right angle hole. Filter the tank's fuel and use that to wash out the tank and fuel hose and then filter the fuel a second time to remove any and all junk. Then, if it's not horrible, return it to the tank, top the tank off with fresh fuel and away you go.
Carb or brake cleaner on the 'rubber' gaskets will expand / stretch them - and you will regret that (seriously regret that) at the worst time in the future.
If the mower still won't start then go to Steve's Small Engine Saloon site and research slightly opening up the right angle jet to .019 or .020".
Also, newer mowers with automatic chokes sometimes have a sticking problem in the linkage. Simple fix. Steve's site has a good video on that simple "drill-out" using micro drills by hand. - Joe -

Thanks for reminding me of the starter fluid trick.
I didn't have any but shot in a 10cc measure of Acetone (nail polish remover) and my 450e kicked straight into life
I had bought and fitted a whole new carb, thinking that the E10 Bio-ethanol petrol had melted the carb as it did on another (much older) B&S engine
No. I'm getting old and stupid - I'd actually put kerosene in its tank instead of petrol.

I think they're made of plastic now because the E10 biothanol attracts water and then turns into vinegar (acid) Which would simply eat the die-cast Zinc they were always made of.
Plastic won't get eaten.
But anyway, if you use a decent fuel additive/preserver, it will attach to any water in your tank/carb and pull it through the engine and burn it before it accumulates in the bottom of the carb and does any damage.

I'm scared to take this apart but if it doesn't start tomorrow I guess I will try it. It almost starts does a big rev I think it will run goes for like 15 seconds and then it quits. Ughh Thanks for the video Kipp.

Just like me, use a knife because we didn't plan ahead. Great video!

I believe the problem is no fuel filter. I'm going to put a filer inline between carburetor and gas tank. Mine get dirt in it every 3 or 4 weeks.

So after replacing the spark plug, air filter, cleaning the carb and trying starter fluid.... What's your next guess lol? Still can't get mine started

Thanks for the video. Didn't think it would work as there was no noticeable clog in the jet, but it fired right up once I got it back together.

So would it be the carb if it was running fine and just stopped when trying to add more fuel.
It wasn’t like it was sitting for a while prior
