Sherman Firefly Vs King Tiger #shorts

The German King Tiger heavy tank was a monster of a machine that dominated the battlefields of Europe. One of the most feared weapons of World War II, the King Tiger gained an aura of invincibility that was only shattered by the introduction of the Sherman Firefly during the summer of 1944.

Specifically designed by the British to combat the Tiger, the Sherman Firefly was based on the standard American M4A4 Sherman medium tank, but was fitted with a powerful 17-pounder gun which made it a deadly opponent for the Tiger. [1]

This simulation shows a scenario in which the British Sherman Firefly tank targets the turret side of a German King Tiger tank with 76mm 7-pdr Mk.1 APDS at a distance of 200m.

One thing I don’t understand is why when they shoot from Soviet tanks, they shoot in the forehead, and when from American tanks, they shoot at the side?

Хорошо смоделировано. Но у немецких танков была гетерогенная броня, с поверхнстной закалкой, к тому же в 44-м году начались проблемы с редкоземельными металлами такими как никель и молибден. Немецкие металлурги экспериментировали над улучшением качества немецкой броневой стали, но она все равно получалась очень твердой и хрупкой. Если учитывать этот факт то в этой модуляции броня могла быть и не пробита, но могла лопнуть от удара как стекло.

Fun Fact: Remember the Crazy Irishman who rammed a king tiger then proceed to destroy the king tiger and his own tank? John Gormann rammed a king tiger using his sherman making both tanks disabled before he escpaes and runs before he finds a smoking Sherman Firefly which it's still operational but the commander sadly killed so he took command and went back to the fight were he one shotted the King Tiger through its flank before he turned his attention to his own tank and shoot the stricken sherman and it explodes as it hits the ammo rack, they retreated before the other panzers rained hell on them

The Sherman firefly was designed specifically for taking down tigers the m4sherman and its many of versions was a huge success huge numbers and proving to be very useful but the m4 Sherman was never planned or designed to come across other tanks let alone a tiger so the British was like well let’s just put a bigger gun and for the most part it was a huge success I mean a tiger will still take it out in one shot but so would the firefly it’s really who shoots first

The Firefly was a successful stopgap until tanks such as the Comet and Centurion could make an appearance. The Sherman was truly dependable and adaptable. If only the Germans hadn't been making the best anti tank guns at the time, it could've been different.
