Huge mistake for Wizards. Dixon was worth a team of employees.

Oh look, C Suite is cooking the books for shareholder dividend returns for q4.

Tragic that the dnd and magic teams have to suffer because the toy company doesn't know how to sell toys.

It’s not just WoTC. John Warden who was the head of GI Joe and Transformers was also cut due to these layoffs.

Unreal... Dixon was so DAMN good at his job, and such a good f'n egg. Wizard's didn't deserve his kindness

When you realize that corporations must always put shareholder value first, meaning if they can fire 90% of the staff and drop quality 99% for a 1% raise in the shareholder value they will. Also you will likely find that no c-level suit got axed, probably got raises.

4 weeks ago. WoTC: "the 2024 PHB was the fastest selling product in history!"

W: you know what that means, friends!!!?!

Staff: Bonuses!!?

W: ...kind of. Bonuses for us. Layoffs for you. And tiny american flags for everyone else!!!

This comes days before the third quarter earnings. So, likely because it’s mentioned in their forward looking statements. If I was employed there I would actively be looking for employment elsewhere at this point, no matter how much of a dream job it was when you were hired.

It's wild because smaller designers and publishers have fantastic games but they don't have the marketing or the IP to get the same reach as WotC.

I bet the c suite got bonuses for each employee layoff.

Why do you think layoffs happen toward the end of the year? The "Big" boys and girls need their holiday bonuses.

The WotC braindrain continues. Mark my words, the quality of 5.5e, and the company's operation in general, only goes downhill from here. You can't keep jettisoning experienced workers and expect to maintain quality.

Man good thing I can infinitely home brew. I’m really feeling like cutting all monetary support of wizards products, I just do not like how they are treating longstanding employees

Makes sense, they want wotc to be a video game company and d&d to be some kind of digital service video game like product. No real reason to keep the same old team that worked with physical books and physical stores all their lives. Restructure, even if it's towards failure !

Layoffs are incredibly common in the modern age. A big round of layoffs is somewhat common at large corporations. All that payroll off the books at the end of the year looks very good to investors on the 4th quarter call. Then in the first quarter you replace all those people with contractors and new hires that are much cheaper and restart the cycle Q4 next year. Its how microsoft, facebook, google ect all operate. Its bad for efficency, its bad for culture and its bad for the product, but its good for the investors, so it gets done

At this point i'm just impressed they still have employees to lay off

Makes me wonder if Chris Perkins saw the writing on the wall...

Of course they would get rid of that position! Without him WotC can just put everyone on hold and ignore the community even more.

Sad.

It definitely sucks that this happened to Dixon, but this isn't new information regarding layoffs. When the 1100 people were dismissed prior, we were told that more layoffs would be coming in 2024. When nothing was announced, I was HOPING it meant that Hasbro/WotC was retracting what was said because maybe things actually got good enough for them that the company as a whole didn't have to go through with additional layoffs. Turns out to not be the case. Will there be more layoffs? For sure. Don't know how many, but between now and January, I'm expecting to hear of a few more people from the Hasbro company to get dismissed.

Not gonna lie. When the news about Chris Perkins dropped, I thought for sure he was going to be exited like Mike Mearls and other senior staff members. Glad that ended up not being the case, but I'm sure even his job isn't actually safe.
