Are the revenues from tariffs sustainable? Assuming they have one of their intended results of having more people buy American made products, won't that reduce income from tariffs? Thus requiring even further spending cuts?

I would be happy if those spending cuts happen. And the size of government shrinks. But I think there's going to be effective political will against the size of cuts that will be needed.

I think for a lot of Americsns the IRS is baseless as the cost to tax their income is higher than revenue. I could see a system where only people making more than - say 500k - have to fill in tax documents and/or concentrating on corporations only. Trump is on the right path but chaos must be avoided.

Congress just passed another huge spending package and cutting interest rates, so much for cutting the fat!

Getting rid of the IRS and the income tax sounds great in principle, and I would support it, but there are so many entrenched interests that benefit from the current setup, I honestly don't believe there is any realistic chance of making it happen.

Haha. US abolishes income tax. Loads up on tariffs on foreign goods. US individuals and companies stop buying higher priced imported goods. Tariff receipts plummet. Government revenue tanks causing fiscal crisis. Great Idea Prof St Onge! We’ll be watching!
