In this video, I will show you what happens on a river meander. This is suitable for those studying Geography in Years 7-11.

As the river erodes laterally, to the right and then to the left, it forms a large curve and then forms a horseshoe-shaped ring called a meander.
The force of the water erodes and weakens the bank on the outside of the curve, due to the least friction, the water flow gets the most energy here. This will form a river cliff.
Inside the curve, the flow of the river is slower and the material is deposited due to the greater friction. This will form a landslide.
Over time, the shoes become tighter until the ends are very close. When the river breaks through banks, for example, during floods, when the river has greater flow, greater energy, and connected at both ends, the loop is cut off from the main river. The cutting circuit is called an Ox-Bow lake.
