Getting a new macbook, and I honestly would avoid a case now and get a sleeve and/or a vinyl skin. been using a clear lightweight plastic and silicon case for 4+ years and yes, it can cause damage to the hinge. It may not matter if you're trading it in for a new mac but if you want to prevent potential damage then no case is the way

For those crying about it damaging the MBP, there should be no reason for you to be. Depending on how far you are opening your lid and how frequently yes it will wear over time but in reality how long are you keeping your MBP anyways? I'll take a case over not having one and risking any type of cosmetic damage that 100% decreases your resale value. Anytime I was in the market for one I'd always avoid ones that never were in cases.
