What did you think of Starmer's speech?

I have just seen the UK coverage of this speech in the UK. You are correct. The MSM and the Conservatives and now Labour are ignoring Brexit. It will be 30 years before it will be discussed again. I have given up on the UK. Keep up the good work. Thankless task

We need a proper governmental economic assessment on Brexit. Without knowing what Brexit has cost, and what it has broken, how can we start to address what is required?

Unfortunately there are still plenty of people who think Brexit is the best thing that happened. Even after recognising the lies told.

The ruin of the last government needed to end. It has. The ruin isn't going to not be a ruin just because the election was won. Brexit is 100% the issue who's name cannot be mentioned

Ironically, literally just finished filling in my Labour membership resignation form due to exactly this reason. We get that the Tories trashed the economy, we needed a change of Government, but if you plant your flag on the hill of honesty, are willing to expose our economic shortcomings, talk about austerity 2.0, then you should then talk about the economic benefits that could be derived from a positive policy with the EU & setting out a road map for rejoining.

He chose to continue dragging the shackles of brexit denial so he'll get what's coming to him and his party, it will finish them as it did with the tories, unfortunately people will suffer in the meantime.

Its about time they all stopped pandering to the few who still support Brexit, its pathetic.

There needs to be a serious, indendent, honest, public, formal review of brexit, it's consequences and start a discussion about what we can do about it. Being independent of government will mean that while the brexit media go nuts, they can't really aim their nonsense at the government.

Those who promised that Brexit was the answer to our woes, should have more than milkshakes as a penalty

He don't talk about it becuse he can't do anything about it. No one in UK can do anything about it. And I think that the message he got from Europen leaders forget joining in a foreseable future.

Growth, growth and growth. Why does Keir Starmer sound like Liz Truss?

I got the impression that there was downplaying discussion of Brexit during the election to avoid upsetting some of the voters. Once they are in Labour has to be more careful. Brexit is causing a permanent problem and it has to be explained, continuing to run away from it looks more and more dishonest and more and more like the Tories. The Government has to explain, outline the things that can be done and those that cannot because of Brexit. It has to be made clear that the UK is going to fall further and further behind if those things cannot be fixed and the level of improvement available from tinkering round the edges is miniscule. Measures that will mitigate some of the problems include voluntary alignment with EU standards and provision of customs provision and support to facilitate the flow of imports and exports but it is only once Britain has worked to align with the EU will it be possible to consider rejoining and eliminating some of the red tape.

Starmer is ignoring the elephant in the room. It will strike him down too if he gets to near. Cameron, May, Johnson, (Corbett) Truss...Starmer....

Austerity was only mentioned once in that. And only as a passing comment. Brexit isn't great, of course, but austerity is what's killing this country. Brexit is salt in the wound. Do centrists really think if we reversed Brexit everything would be rosy, even if we did more austerity? Of course not. The country was in pieces before Brexit.

There's also the loss of 100 billion in revenue for the economy every single year. New-new labour is simply Tory light

I agree with your first statement that we need to give them a bit of time, but agree we need to be honest about Brexit, let us have a proper independent assessment of the real cost of Brexit

just to summarise, first was Cameron fix the roof before it rains, now is Starmer fix the foundation when its building work is expensive work so prepare for least a 5 year to tears and blood there's going to be no joys at all.
Funny enough tho, the bigger business will be spared. No windfall, no extra profit taxes and no update on caps on managers bonuses.

Condolences guys. Looks like you’re in for more austerity. :(

It's as if the Tories never left office .
Since when has wealth creation been labours number one priority .
If it's only fifty days and we've had the fuel allowance scrapped for pensioners and now this speech which is very ominous then you know what's coming and it's looking very grim indeed .
