0:30 Was on my way to a job interview once when I got rear ended bu another car. My truck had only a small dent in the bumper but her car was smashed badly.
I explained I was on my way to a job interview so we quickly exchanged information and I left her to call a tow truck.
Got to the interview place and the receptionist explained something had come up and the person doing my interview was going to be late and asked if I could come back in 2 hours. I said sure and the receptionist gave me $10 for lunch.
Had a good lunch then went back to meet the person doing the interview. It was the woman who had rear ended me.
I'm glad I was polite to her. And yea, I got the job.

13:30 I like that his wife pointed out exactly what I was thinking. You're hiring her for her skill, not what subject she likes to draw.

5:50 That's exactly WHY the kid was nervous; his whole life his mom handled all the talking for him, so now he has no social skills of his own

I had a very similar experience when hiring for a graphic design company, in my case she was under the impression that as we were both women it was okay to show drawings from her "personal" collection. The same thing happened when I got home and spoke to my wife, her response was "if the artistry is good, the content shouldn't matter" so she got the job.

I did advise her to do some "generic" sample drawings to take along to interviews or clients in future at which point she when bright red and furiously nodded her head. With that being said, she's an amazing artist who's specially requested by our biggest clients as they are so impressed by her passion and attention to detail.

P.S. I'm gay BTW, just in case anyone was confused by a woman having a wife.

My friend had studied for seven years for a very compact artistic branch. They got an interview with one of the best employers in the nation, guaranteed long term employment.
Lunch meeting. To nervous to think about picking a meal. Ordered sallad with walnuts. Forgot they was allergic to walnuts. Nearly vomited on the table. Spend 10 minutes vomiting, holding up the line to the bathroom.

10 year later they quit that job to run their own hugely successful freelance business.

I think I would be more likely to hire somebody wearing a zoot suit. That's a real power move.

Flew in the guy for an interview at our video game company, and asked him about his 3-D art skills. "Oh, I can't do 3-D at all. I'm purely a texture/2-D artist." For a position that was specifically for 3-D. Not really the guy's fault - our HR flew him in because he liked the guy's art style and thought he'd be a fit, but just had zero of the skills we were hiring for. So we flew him back and had a fun conversation with HR.

The one about the company hiring artists and the candidate was drawing hentai, actually a lot of good artist came from that background because they got very good at drawing anatomy and interesting poses. A Manga artist called Oh Great! Started as a hentai artist but he ended up became successful mainstream artist because he became very good at drawing fighting poses and athletic male and female after years of drawing naked people in weird positions.

I had an interview as a video games tester, it was fantastic and I got to see a full sized Lara Croft statue. I really enjoyed that day and they had lots of positions to fill. It was my dream job. However they didn't even have the decency to reply. I cried for about a week.

I didn't necessarily mess up, but I had an interview at a church and they literally didn't let me in. I was late to the interview because their security was so high no one let me through the doors.

Ha ha ha! The story about inappropriate e-mail addresses on resumes brought back a funny memory. We had a temporary employee from an agency come to work in my office for a couple of weeks. She enjoyed the job and our team and asked what she would have to do to get a job with us permanently. My direct supervisor told her to submit her resume. As soon as he received it, he read it, then approached me to "help" her improve her resume. I was stunned when I saw her email address at the top of the first page. It included the number "69". This was hardly some giddy school girl with a juvenile side - she was a forty-something mother of three! We created a new email account for her, but she got petulant and wanted to keep her existing address. I ran into her months later at a coffee shop. She was still presenting her original resume to prospective employers and couldn't understand why she hadn't received any offers for interviews. Sheesh!

Fun fact: UPS waits until AFTER you've submitted an application for their feeder/shifter position that they want a minimum of 1 year verifiable Class A experience. Found this out when I dropped an application for the very same position... somehow managed to get an interview, and showed up as a formality at minimum, knowing full well that coming off the type of separation I'd had from my last company, plus not enough experience, plus having no endorsements on my CDL (for context, companies like UPS typically require Doubles/Triples at minimum) was probably going to add up to not getting the job. Sure enough, lack of experience was the deal breaker. Live and learn, I guess... after thanking them for their time and apologizing for my lack of qualification, I did politely suggest that they could weed out poor matches like myself by putting the experience requirement on the listing itself instead of hiding it until after an application is submitted, though

The vague road descriptions EMT applicant reminds me -- this story might be apocryphal, but it's fun. US Army Lieutenant stationed in Germany gets lost on the way to field exercises, calls to try to get directions. They ask where he is and he says, "I'm on Einbahnstraße just outside of Umleitung." So they explained to him that this meant he was on a one-way street along a detour.

When you're in your final quarter at my university they have a capstone class to prepare you for interviews and stuff. I remember one of the advisors telling us a story about somebody who was going in for a job interview and when out in the parking lot, they were ranting and raving about something. They were all polite when they got in for the interview, but either a customer or a current employee heard them and said something so needless to say they didn't get hired.
I kinda understand that, but, if you're good at faking it till you make it, I'd hire that person.

In about 2001 I crashed a test Access database a company was using in a skills assessment after telling me it was just like Excel. I was a whiz at Excel but had never used Access, no place I'd worked up until then used Access, and in all the years and places I've worked since I haven't used Access. I interviewed well but crashing the database killed any chance. Would've been a cool job too but...oh well.

My dad was looking to hire someone, and called in a woman with an impressive resume. Under the skills section of her resume, it was listed as 'working understanding of Norwegian'. He asked her about this, and she said that she had spent a bunch of time in Scotland (or somewhere around there, I can't remember) and "Once you've spoken one northern language, you've spoken them all."
