Interesting Rome fact: At the archaeological site of Jamestown, some of the stone foundations for the buildings in the settlement were made from ballast stones taken from the ships. One of the stones most likely was a Roman cobblestone taken and repurposed by the English at some point to be used as ship ballast until it was finally used as a foundation stone for one of the buildings at the site.
