Windows 8 received a lot of hate upon release. But was Windows 8 really that bad? I answer that in this video.

This is a reupload because I made some mistakes in the original video I wanted to correct.

Windows 10 is successful because they mixed up windows 8 and windows 7

windows 8 should have been a version only for tablets. They could have made a separate version that was a lot like win 7 with a more modern design

This OS is nostalgic for me, I remember the school computers crashing every few minutes lol

One thing i really love about windows 8 is the look. Something about the flat design just looks really good

I actually really like Windows 8.1, and that's coming from someone who had a shitty experience trying to run 8.0 on a crappy Windows 7 laptop.

Even then, trying out 8.0 in a virtual machine isn't the worst experience I've ever had. Sure, the UI is somewhat confusing, but I feel like my experience with Windows 10 helped me get adjusted to it better than when I was using 7.

Windows 8.1 is my favourite OS. Because I only used it on a touchscreen convertible laptop, and it was my first ever very own laptop. So, yeah, it can be more of an emotional connection, but something I liked the most were the animations. That was the peak of UI smoothness.

One of the images you showed was of a HP Envy that I used to have (exact model, except my touchscreen didn't work) and then the image right afterwards you showed an image of a desktop with the same keyboard and mouse I use!

Maybe windows 8/8.1 was highly inconsistent, but the thing I absolutely love about is that 8.1 is super stable and fast and I have had absolutely ZERO problems with this OS

Was Windows 8 bad?
Before 8.1 yes. After no, it was the best Windows version ever

I care more about stability than consistency, and I remember Windows 8 running like a dream.

I remember the switch from windows 7 to 8 happened right as I went to college. It royally messed me up especially in my entry IT course that tried to teach you the UI for windows 8.

I'm not the only one who actually doesn't hate windows 8 yet the navigation was intimidating due to lack of start menu but I got used to that trend. I'm fine with metro menu and I barely faced a problem on my aunt's laptop but updating prevented it from working. At least, it has nice sound effects especially background and foreground as they didn't give me anxiety. RIP win8 (2012-2016), time to try windows 8.1 one day.

Windows 8 is and still is to this day my favorite version of Windows next to Windows XP and Windows 2000, I'm a Linux user now, but when I do use Windows, it's Windows 8!

I miss the old Windows Defender UI. It actually looked like a program. Nowadays on Windows 10, like everything else in that OS, it feels like dealing with a customer service rep.

If Windows 8.1 had been offered as a free upgrade for users of Windows 7, there would not be a Windows 10 today.

The whole 2011-2013 was an era of change in terms of both UI and UX for many operating systems. It was around this time that both iOS and OSX at the time was moving from skeuomorphism to a flatter design. Gnome went on with Gnome 3.0, Ubuntu with Unity, and ofc Microsoft with Windows 8.

And honestly, as someone who saw this growing up, I appreciate the risk that each respective group took in order to bring us what we take for granted nowadays.
