As a survivor of extreme child abuse this song hits really close to home. The worst was the adults that knew but didn't stop it. I think that was almost harder than the abuse itself.

I work with these poor kids every day. And no matter what parents do to their children, the children are always so forgiving. We just lost a 6 year old boy the other day because he hung up his pants after school inside out and his mothers boyfriend beat him to death.
He was in our care until the mom could prove that her boyfriend no longer lived there.
She lied and now that precious little boy is gone.

Sitting here in the dark bawling my eyes out. Damn this cuts deep. I know it's subjective, but I've always thought Martina has the most beautiful and most powerful female voice in country music. She was never afraid to sing about the rough stuff too. I hadn't heard this song in years and God it's so beautiful and sad. Just heartbreaking
