Had a ps4 didnt clean it in 10 years still works now perfectly fine

Definitely a PSU getting clogged with dust. Difficult to clean because it's right at the bottom when looking into the system. But when I cleaned the PSU my PS5 has not crashed since. Obviously there could be other problems like the heatsink or inadequate airflow but I think the PSU is the most common reason for PS5s shutting down ... particularly the older models.

I've had to keep a 20 Inch box fan behind the PS5, but aiming away so it is pulling the heat out. It works so much better with way less frame drop with the fan on it. Mine still turned off twice the last few nights! Hate playing COD zombies just to get into it and have this unexpected shutdown issue! Thanks for the info!

This should be a recall. I’m a PlayStation supporter since ps1 and I’m not going to buy another one if I can’t fix mine. Xbox it is!! Once again a book smart engineer with zero common sense cost us millions to fix this because by the time it happens to you (and it will) your warranty will be up!!! Unacceptable if you ask me…

This was literally the game that started my game shutdowns lol. Just only needed to remove fan and clean dust from inside with tooth brush. Stopped having issues immediately. Works even better now and quieter

Thanks, This worked for me and my ps5 has been shutting off abruptly for 2 years now. Who knew a 9 dollar fan from Amazon would do the trick for a 500 dollar console? It’s a shame Sony haven’t addressed this issue.

Its 2023 modern consoles shouldn't have theses issues and you shouldn't need a usb fan to keep it cool, thats the type of thing people would do with the xbox 360. Lucky my launch ps5 hasnt had any issues yet even my ps3 40gb and launch ps4 hasnt had any issues to this day.

I had the same issue where my PS5 would play PS4 games just fine, but it would instantly shut down when trying to play any PS5 games. The fix for me was to replace the power supply unit (PSU). I bought a new PSU and swapped out the old one, and now everything works perfectly.

My sons been having this problem for months, many times I’ve taken it apart to clean the fans etc and it was still happening . Have bought those stands with fans and sadly they didn’t help . Came to YouTube with my last glimmer of hope and came across your video . Purchased a small cheap fan off Amazon and it’s been 4 days and the PS5 hasn’t turned itself off once ! My God I been having this problem for a long time, so many videos I watch, reset my whole game and everything!!! So many people talking about you gotta clean it like I haven’t been doing that before I was having this problem and all it took was this video to tell me to put a fan on it and it works great now! It's been years since I've seen a cooling solution like this. Cleaning it is still necessary. Keeping all the heat inside will lead to thermal throttling and therefore affect your overall performance.

This has worked tremendously for me. I cleaned out my ps5 (just the fan and around it) and still overheated and shut off randomly. I rearranged my space to have it near an open window with a small fan towards the back of it, still happened. I didn’t realize how hot the power bottom of the system gets when you stand it up. Give it a shot

This actually did help. I bought a cheap fan off Amazon and I placed exactly where the vents of the the PSU is like on the video and it stopped shutting off when I played PS5 games. But this just shows that the issue with my ps5 is the PSU is clogged with dust build up. And I either have to get someone to do it or do it myself.

people on reddit said they have the same problems they say it only happens when playing the ps5 versions of games but not the ps4 versions im also having the same issue!

edit: i got a fan and it did nothing!

2nd edit: I think i got my ps5 to work you have to factory reset your ps5 and make sure to download games your gonna 100% play cuz uninstalling games and reinstalling games can make the games have i think encoding problems if i remember correctly according to my brother? since we factory restarted my ps5 I have not had a problem so for, also remember if you have a disc in your ps5 it makes your ps5 work even harder so if your not playing a disc game I recommend taking the disc game out of the system

If this happens, when you take your fan out while cleaning, look in the hole and down the PS5. You’ll see some little holes at the bottom, probably cover in dust. Grab a toothbrush and get it down there (it will be blind because you can’t look and clean) but keep sticking your phone torch down and checking how you are doing. Once most of them are dust free, this will stop happening.
