Do you ever wonder what to do with unusual paintbrush shapes? Let's not worry about following rules. Be an artistic rebel and we'll explore paintbrushes together!

Thank you to everyone who signed up to help me bring my set of custom paintbrushes to life! We didn't reach quite enough sign-ups to make this project go ahead, but I'm so grateful for your support.

Hi Anne! I was delighted to see your video on unusual brush shapes and wanted to say hi back! I got a big smile when you followed my question with another question -- it was exactly the prompt I needed to inspire me to play and experiment with my brushes! I decided to create a brush "swatch" page in my journal to display the shapes each one could make. Since we swatch our paints, markers and colored pencils, I thought, why not swatch the brushes, too! I labeled each with the number and size to I can refer back to it so I can practice. Your encouragement of play, no rules (rebel!) and experimentation is spot on! Thank you so much for the inspiration!

I think I voted twice. I hope it still works😀 I love the idea of that chiseled brush.

Hello Anne! I'm a new subscriber to your blog and Joy letter too! I was introducted to you from a link of someone else i follow almost two months ago now 😊 I think it was your studio tour? Anyhow, I really admire your gentle style and your voice is kind and soothing. Your artwork is beautiful too! I signed up for your brushes and i hope you get enough interest as it sounds like a fun project. Speaking of, yes! I love this exploring brushes and the marks they make. I have an entire sketchbook and another half of just all of my brushes and their marks! It is soo fun to do! It is still 90°-100°F here in Texas and not much is blooming except my coleus and purslane, so not many flowers to paint. But i have many agaves and other succulents and a house full of plants to paint! I am currently getting re-acquainted with a 1/4 dagger brush. Thank you for the lovely video and another glimpse of your beautiful garden!

This is so helpful Anne. What interesting marks you created with the different brushes. I need one of those brushes you used in your botanical. It looks sturdy and makes a great point. Does it wear out quickly?
