The main reason these cheaper models come with Philips screws is because this is marketed towards a beginner which most likely doesn’t own a dedicated RC toolset. But who doesn’t own a screwdriver? Also it has bushing’s because they require less maintenance and are more forgiving with sand and mud. Its actually quite genius for the market they’re trying to hit when you think about it. Now…. the vxl comes with hex hardware and bearings because it’s marketed for someone with more experience. Its literally on the box.

My son just broke his body on the bigfoot edition (edit his truck fits a Traxxas 5000mh 3cell I also think the bigfoot one looks more realistic and seems lower)

Another great video. Most of these issues is shared with my Rustler 2WD as well. I agree with all you said. I decided to start swapping out the screws, but I haven't come around to swap them all out yet. It's quite the task.

A super cheap way to change out all the screws would be to order from belmetric. You can order any amount and they have tones of sizes. Traxxas does use some odd size screws (length), but I'm sure a couple mm less or more wont hurt.

Yes I got a rustler 2wd xl5 which I brushless converted. I went through 3 stock servo savers and then upgraded to a metal servo horn which is 10 times better. I also got a hex screw kit and converted the whole car over to hex hardware. I stripped out alot of Phillips head screws. I also upgraded to bearings too. Traxxas makes the bandit rustler and stampede platforms very cheap. The vxl versions and the 4wd vxl versions are alot better imo since they have bearings and hex hardware. Another thing that the vxl has and the xl5 doesn't is steel adjustable camber links while the xl5 has the plastic non adjustable links.

Soooo... the things you hate about the base model Stampede is that it doesn't have a lot of upgrades?

I run the traxxas anacondas on my slash and rustler. I ordered some duratrax six packs for the slash and for my rustler I am planning to get proline speed treads or trenchers. I do have to agree that the stampede and bandit xl5 completely stock looks like a toy grade but once upgraded it looks more hobby grade. I only run on 2s in my cars but looking on 3s lipos so I'll look into that expansion kit. The ruslter has the exact same battery strap or tray problem as the stampede.

For $200 with a remote, battery and charger there really aren’t any complaints about this rig. Spend $600 and get a better one.

Had the same problem with my bandit all Phillips serws

Not all the newbies just entering the hobby have hex bits to take out the screws

The stampede needs a bumper I haven’t had a bumper and the screw in the back is half way gone I hope it does affect anything

“My opinion” wheelie bars look stupid and you don’t need them, you can wheelie great with the stock setup if you understand throttle control and the electric power band on your model, instead of just dragging some tiny wheels at a set position, I suggest everyone learn throttle control, and how to keep the car in a wheelie without a Vice to help, gets in the way when bashing as well 🤷🏽‍♂️ just my opinion

Talking about realism, the ridiculous wide wheel stans didn't bother you?

#1. It's not an Arrma Granite.
I have both...

I got a Stampede in 1993. Shelved from 1999 to 2022. When I picked up the hobby again, I was shocked to find the Stampede is 98% identical to the current offering. Nice to get parts, lousy for innovation. It handled like a pig then, it handles like a pig now. I converted to brushless for the nostalgia, spent way too much on RPM plastic, and the bone stock Granite handles and drives 1000x better. Yes, I know I'm comparing 2wd to 4wd.

The VXL Stampede comes with better screws, actually all VXL Traxxas models do. I don't know about the new model but the VXL only fits 2 cell lipo. I bought my VXL Stampede used. The chassis was snapped by the servo, but the servo saver was still good. My 7 year old slash still has the original servo saver, it's my most abused Traxxas model everyone runs it. Most of the time I run 3s lipos. Had to replace the tires many times, burn the tires off it.

For the number one thing you hate you can easily get the stainless screw kit for the stampede vxl and the hinge pins for the vxl hope this helps

Honestly i think it looks better with a raised body and aluminum wheels which is everything my new stampede doesn't have

So complaining it can’t fit a battery that it’s not meant to take. Gotcha

I have a Stampede with a Rustler 2wd chassis. It basically is a Rustler now. Doesnt handle as well as one with the monster truck wheels and taller body. But its much more enjoyable to drive. The steering is also better since its now a bell crank setup.
