We actually had a vet tech tell us we couldn't cut the pill in half because we wouldn't be sure the medicine was in the half we gave the dog.

Key takeaways:
If your tablet has a score line on it, typically it's OK to split it. Extended-release tablets, capsules, and pills with special coatings on the outside usually can't be split or opened. Always check with a pharmacist before splitting any pills. Also, unk tablets may not have medication evenly distributed inside. So again, talk to your pharmacist first.

I was tutoring a little boy last year who had really bad constipation. I asked his mom about it and she said, the problem was that he never ate vegetables - only one type he liked: tomatoes. But she would only let him eat a few, because "in large quantities they are poisonous".. And this wasn't even an uneducated family. I just stood there staring at her.

Vitamin story time!
My sister and I were about 3-4 years old...when our mother was still working at night and would sleep well into the day. We couldn't reach the fridge, or the bread. But we got very hungry and she didn't leave us anything on the table to eat that morning, or was is just not enough?! Our stepdad would already go to work at 5a.m. So we would move that one chair that was light enough for us to move and not wake her up...and climb that chair to reach the hanging net with the fruits. Bad thing, cos feet weren't suppose to touch the chairs, plus that thing was slippery with socks. She was a fan of kiwis, since she hadn't had any growing up. First time she saw one, she thought it was a fuzzy potato. So we had like 12 kiwis in that net.
My sister and I got ourselves ONE kiwi, two spoons and one knife. I think it was a butter knife, cos we knew we weren't allowed to touch the other knifes.😂 And we took it all to our room and cut it and ate one half each. It was yummy.😊😁 So soon we got another. And another and I think together we ate 5 or 6 or so. Our mouths and tongues were burning pretty bad😅 But we still were kinda hungry.
Finally we stopped and started playing something and we were pretty hyper.😅 Fructose is still sugar.
But when our mother woke up, she was absolutely terrified when she discovered how many kiwis we ate and how jumpy we were. She checked our eyes and was near to dragging us to the doctors.😂 She kept talking about us having a vitamin shock.😂😆😆🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 She wasn't too mad at as, since she finally understood that we couldn't go on without real breakfast for 4 hours, just because she was still asleep.
Oh yes, why didn't we just wake her? She has epilepsy and waking her is practically a guarantee for an episode. We were the calmest toddlers ever on the planet.
Anyhow I believed in vitamin overdoses for a very long time because of that. When I finally learnt that most vitamins dissolved in water and we would simply pee out the most of it...I really had a 🤦‍♀️-moment.
I'm so happy I survived my mothers uneducated and useless brain.

That mother needs a bit of support and I hope that she gets it

I don't consider this question as stupid as most. Perhaps there is medicine that is layered or uneven portioned (for what reason ever).
Asking over phone is perhaps not the smartest way, but the question itself may have some reason.
(And to threaten to get the child taken because of a question that sounds stupid to you😡... and may be, but harmles. It just leads to parents seeing this and getting insecure and maybe not asking where it would be necessary)

Thats not true..if a pill isnt scored its not made to be halfed..a whole pill could have the med in only part of the pill..a pharmacist told me that..thats why u should only take their word for pills not the dr or nurse

I rather ask a silly question instead than making a horrible mistake. 😅

You say that like bilayer pills that you aren’t supposed to cut in half don’t exist because they’re meant to be swallowed whole and digested a certain way and cutting them can screw up the dosage/how the drug is absorbed. Your statement that “any time you cut a pill you’re getting half of whatever is in that pill” isn’t factual.

Why would she give half of a vitamin in the first place?

That hurt my brain trying to understand what the mom meant 😂😂😂😂

At least she had the presemce of mind to check and be sure? Some parents wouldn't even give their kids vitamins in the first place.

" How do people go through life thinking like that?"

It's more that they don't possess the ability to think.
