the point to be noted here is that each sub box represents the probability of the intersection of the subsequent x and y and not the conditional probability.

When we condition X <=2 and Y >=3, P(X=1 | Y=4) = 1/9 whereas P(X=1) = 1/3, shouldn't P(X=1 | Y=4) = P(X=1)?
