Good Luck Babe, Chappell Roan

Показать описание
I must admit, I haven’t sung a song like this in a hot minute. (Tori Amos comes to mind!)
It’s really interesting to see this song rise to massive fame, from a vocal perspective. Obvi, it’s catchy AF and clever and retro and beautifully sung by a captivating and beautiful artist… but also, the emphasis on the more heady, hooty tone is quite rare at the moment, in the pop landscape. We have light and floaty vibes from artists like Billie Eilish, sure. But the “Good Luck Babe” chorus spends a lot of time waaaay up the female range, using a tone that’s almost closer to that in traditional classical repertoire than what we’ve heard in pop vocals for a few decades!
This was an interesting exercise for me. 😂 I tend to use a thicker, beltier tone most often.
Give this chorus a try singers! Listen to how Chappell Roan ends her phrases with a thicker tone. Listen to how she explores and blends through lots of different depths of tone. See how it suits yoouuu!
(Note, I checked out a couple live vids of her and she performs this song a whole step lower, usually!)
