Lean on Me, written by American singer-songwriter Bill Withers, was released in 1972 and went on to top the Billboard Hot 100. Bill wrote this song after he had moved to Los Angeles and found himself missing the strong community ethic of his hometown where everyone leaned on each other to help out. It's paired here with the Civil Rights Anthem "We Shall Overcome" which, for many, symbolized the movement and the mission of the 1960's.
