Floods and landslides continue to batter the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with several tourists stranded. A yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms and lightning is in place in both states for today.
Over 145 people have died in rain-related incidents since the onset of the monsoon in parts of northern India. Floods and landslides continue to batter the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with several tourists stranded. While Himachal Pradesh is the worst affected with 91 deaths since the monsoon began, 14 have been killed in Uttar Pradesh, 16 in Haryana, 11 in Punjab, and 16 in Uttarakhand. A yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms and lightning is in place in both states for today. Many roads, including national highways, have been closed due to landslides in the mountains. Delhi saw flooding and waterlogging in several places, owing to a steep rise in Yamuna's water level. However, according to fresh reports, the water level has come down by 17 centimeters overnight on Friday, and now stands at 208.46 mtr. Severe waterlogging was reported in Rajghat and Purana Qila areas, and Red Fort is closed for visitors till July 14.
