Absolutely agree with your ratings of these books! With so many retellings of the Hades and Persephone myth nowadays, not that I’m complaining, there are definitely the not-so-good ones and the really really good ones! Plus Scarlett's A Game of Fate blew me away with how much I liked it. She did such a good job with not only writing in Hades' perspective but a gods perspective, which I think most authors tend to struggle with

I really like Punderworld’s retelling of Hades and Persephone. It’s on hiatus right now, but the artwork is great and a good start to what I can see as being a great retelling.

I used to love Lore Olympus, but after the mid Season 2 finale, I just feel like the author lost control of the story, the season 2 finale was one of the most anticlimatic things I ever read, and season 3 so far is boring, and all the characters just feel off. Since season 3 it is supposed to be the last one, I'm not too optimistic about its future.

I can never get enough of hades and persephone retellings! some that I recommend are 'Drag me Up' by RM Virtues, its similar to Neon Gods, set in the modern world has the whole mafia type feel, but Persephone is a trans woman. I also think RM Virtues has a genuine interest in Greek mythology and so weaves it in the story in subtle and interesting ways, even if the story isn't THAT closely related to the myth. Also 'Court of asphodels' by Eliza Enzo might be my favourite retelling (after Lore Olympus), it sticks closely to the source material, and the way the gods were written was so rich in symbolism and depth I thought.

Recommendations for books that do follow the mythology? Imaginative retellings that do follow the mythologies are so hard for me to find for some reason!

So glad I found this! Wondering - have you ever read Sarah J Maas' ACOTAR series? Book 2 was based on the Hades & Persephone myth.

Thomas C Foster makes a case that The Garden Party by Katherine Mansfield (shorty story) is also a retelling. His analysis is in his book How to Read Literature Like a Professor page 262.

I just watched this video recently so sorry since it's an old one. But it kinda bothers me that touch of darkness is similar to lore Olympus as far as how they meet and stuff?

BTW, have you read Receiver of Many by Rachel Alexander? I just started to read it and looks promising

@MoAn Inc. do you know where an accurate description/map of the underworld can be found? I’m making a retelling of Hades and Persephone and I want to get the layout of where most of the story is going to take place right

As a classicist, are you not concerned that classical works are being replaced by a flood of revisionism from modern, feminist authors? I'm seeing "introductions to Greek Mythology" being done with half a dozen books written without regard for actual ancient history/culture. I'm not talking about Madeline Miller here, and not saying that these retellings are not fun, but Homer and Aeschylus are being replaced by these books on many bookshelves.
