A Chilly welcome with new mechanics : Oxygen not included

So far we are using new food crops, new O2 production and Wood for power. This is a totally different start than we are used to. The question is how does that translate to the late game. Considering how the Oxylite is being produced I am hopeful it will be interesting.

- Oxylite tiles sublimating
- FJ: they must be made of snow and melting

You built your sink on oxylite, not snow. The disappearing tiles are oxylite. The light that the heater gives off doesn’t negatively affect dups sleeping and having one in the room helps dups avoid getting cold while sleeping which I believe has a negative impact on sleeping. You get all the wood if you deconstruct the wood container. The squash needs tech behind applied science to cook

7:30 A channel about a cook cooking various meals and talking about the history of the food: "Tasting History" is a good channel indeed :D

The dupes can sleep in dim lights now. So they woodburner doesn't count as light to keep them awake.

Yay, it's been a while since the last ONI playthrough

the only issue with cold challenge maps in ONI was the downwards difficulty curve because when you start industrializing you can just melt everything around you for free cooling. There should be a passive cooling effect on all blocks that gets stronger the farther from the center you are, justified by having a porous background, maybe even cold snaps where the whole map gets cold extremely for 2 days or other map scale events

Always glad to see more ONI! Couple o things though.

1. The name Freja is pronounced Frey-ya, very common Nordic name
2. Cinnabar is the ore form of mercury, hence the overall crappiness

immagine if wood could catch on fire. Generate heat, melt snow tiles, burning ladders creeping into your base...

37:30 the comedic timing of "Have I got any sleet wheat grains around here?" into panning the screen *just* far enough to see 2-3 plants in the top right

gotta love playing vs watching someone play, because I absolutely know that I'd have missed it too

13:33: That damn "ice" (oxylite) melting (sublimating) when you least want it to.

27:49 That bammoth drops 22, 400 kcal of meet. And reed fiber ... Worm jacket is a must for every dup exept the one with white hair.

EDIT: Never mind. I just watched episode two and see someone explained all this already. Still, thank you for the wonderful entertainment Francis. It is much appreciated, even if I'm too busy to keep up to date.

20:35 - My understanding is that "Ranchers" without a skill point in ranching can only do a limited number of "ranching tasks". One of those ranching tasks is bringing tied up critters to critter drop offs. A hauler with high priority in ranching will come by and bring hogtied critters to drop offs soon after a Rancher ties them up. Without a skill point they won't be able to do real ranching tasks like grooming and hugging eggs. This might just be a me problem but my ranchers are usually too busy with real ranching jobs to haul the tied up critters around in a reasonable time. Otherwise I agree, no ranching priority for anyone!

Getting ranching up early in this DLC is actually a very, very good move. Aside from the wood and reed fibre bammoths are an excellent source of emergency meat - they drop 22, 400 kcal. You can kill the wild ones of course but if they're tame you can make sure to pick the ones that aren't going to be laying new eggs any time soon which helps with the relatively long life cycle. On the other hand tame floxes breed pretty fast so even though they only drop 1, 600 kcal you can crack the excess eggs. I always take ranching for my 4th or 5th dupe (if I get a cook first) if I can because that way they immediately get the prerequisite farming skill and can unlock ranching on their first "earned" level up.

Incidentally I would call the 3-tile wide spine deceptively important. Several times I've had the ladder become blocked by falling liquids freezing mid-air. Much better if they can fall to the side. And bammoth patties give off floral scent, so be careful with allergies.

You'll be able to ditch the bedroom light soon. As soon as you see one of those pink crystals set a dig command on it. They'll carve it and it will become portable, it's enough light for nyctophobes. They're usually scattered around the biome with the bammoths and ethanol pools in it.

letting non ranchers do ranching jobs is actually good, because the only ranching jobs they can do is moving wrangled critters to a dropoff, which you don't need to waste your ranchers' time on
