The world is changing. It's not just the lyrics or the repetitiveness. Nowadays we have so much that we can do online. We lost interest in music and we only listen to our favourite old artists.

I’m 22 I work a lot of hours of my day (8-10hrs) live alone and pay all my bills, but I still love music so much I find time to incorporate it to my morning routine, lunch breaks, slow moments at work, and every single drive I take. Only because I’m constantly looking for new artist not only how you explained in the video by checking feature and credits, but also by checking what the algorithm recommends on a weekly basis, and watching videos like this one to expand my knowledge and appreciation for the art. I hope that you guys can rekindle your love for music and maybe try to find music on your own without someone you trust having to show it to you. (Be the person who shows new music to someone)

when you said the 2010-2017 independent wave died (that odd future started) that really kinda hit me like damn. we had a whole era of watching people go from rags to riches in real time. i miss the 2013 era the most for some reason. that xxl class was diverse af. 2018 is really the last real year. 2019-2020 was nothing but pay for playlist shit. in 2023 all ive seen this year is "rap is stagnant now" videos.

i believe we as a people just consumed too much. we barely processed the impact of music in the early 2000s, early 2010s, and so forth. we only dance to tiktok bops because it's easy and accessible. good music *isn't* anymore. artists are really bad people, barely like to perform, and like to argue and fight with fans/haters. it's annoying keeping up with their abnormal lifestyles. if you say something negative.. they are replying, if you say something positive they look at you with a raunchy face. everyone is listening to old and dead artists for these reasons. i absolutely adore mariah in the 90s and she's all i've consumed lately. also doja cat in her early days before she rose to fame because the craft is impeccable. i'm 23.

As someone in his 20's, I still and always will love music. I don't get bored because I avoid music recommended by music charts and listen to artists and music inspired by different forms of media and outside the mainstream. These artists lead me to find new paths for me to explore. There's good and creative music in every generation, but you have to search for it. I believe as time has passed, our attention spans have also gotten lower, making convenient options an optimal choice for finding new music, but convenience doesn't necessarily lead you to what's really out there from my perspective.

I understand what you’re saying. Music, especially mainstream, can be so boring and stagnant and I really feel what you said about when music feels like it’s pushed on you it isn’t as good. But I am blown away every day by just how much music there is out there. Even just in hip hop, there’s so many different styles and sub genres. When music got boring for me I stopped listening to mainstream artists with similar sounds and started listening to underground artists and developing my own taste. Artists like Mach-Hommy, Billy Woods, Mavi, and MIKE have helped me expand my music taste greatly and see that there are still amazing art being made.

I still love music. My love for music is growing day by day. I discover new artists and songs through TikTok

i feel that fr, like i used to put up 200-300k spotify minute yearly but i just can’t listen to the same music i’d listen to anymore. like i can’t do trap & drill 24/7 and the slow songs are starting to grow on me more & i just don’t know what songs are good anymore/don’t care to find out. i don’t feel like listening to bodies dropping and gang dissin otw to my 9-5 lmao. i find myself listening to older music over and over

I am 29 going on 30, and I just started witnessing this myself, I pretty much go to older music than any of these new releases, I mostly listen to hip hp/rap, but I am transitioning and trying to enjoy other genres as well, I was recently listening to Adele and Lana Del Rey just couple days ago, streaming is amazing, but also makes it overwhelming, you got endless amount of music in palm of your hands, there are days I have no idea what to listen too. This is another reason why I like artists like Carti, someone who is trying to bring something new to every prject he drops and doesn't keep the same sound all the time, Rocky is another fav of mine as well, I appreciate the artist who change up

My music taste is a combo of self discovery through YouTube, Soundcloud and Spotify and recommendations from others and stuff i hear in the clubs. I would say the music I discover and music from artists I've listened to for years is what means the most to me. Every song in my playlist is linked to a memory, soundtrack of my life fr and I love that. The thought of new artists coming out with new sounds is exciting, that keeps my love for music alive fr also the fact that I have years worth of bangers in my music library. great vid do more of these style yassine 💯

I thought I was the only one who's experiencing this. Even checking out bubbling under artists doesn't interest me anymore

I'm 23, and as someone who makes music, I think most of what drives me to listen to more artists is the want to be inspired. Although, I've never really been conformed to certain genres, I tend to jump around and listen to whatever sounds nice. I make music that is based on the structure of hiphop/rap, and has the same sort of cadences and tones, but I don't really know what genre it is. The need to find new sounds and new moments that are memorable for me is what keeps me looking.

The main way I find artists is literally by scrolling on insta lmao. One of my favorite musicians is a girl that I randomly found on a page that showcases underground artists. Her name is Mali Velasquez and she recently dropped her first album "I'm Green" which is one of the best albums I've ever listened to.

It's pretty disappointing that there are so many people that aren't putting enough thought into the music they release. As an art form, music shouldn't be something people think they can just pick up in a day.

I started making my own music a few years ago. I still listen music regularly but it's mainly at the gym. I definitely listened to way more music when I'm younger but now that I'm in the field I listen to music as more of an inspiration for ideas or different flows and styles or concepts I wanna use in my own music . Nowadays I won't get to a popular album until months later because I'll rather focus my energy towards other areas and I'll get to it when I feel I actually have the want and time.

Bro I was just thinking about this like last week. Listening to all the music I could and discovering new artists used to be my main hobby, it was my life. These days I really don't check for any new music unless I hear it in public and shazam it for later. Even listening to new drops from artists I love becomes a chore, because you wait so long for them to drop, and it either sounds like they haven't evolved at all or they completely switched up to a sound you don't enjoy. I was at a bar a couple days before Christmas with some old friends who were back in town & I noticed a guy who was no younger than 35 start playing a bunch of 90s & early 2000s classics on the speakers. He's probably the type of dude who says "I don't listen to none of these new artists nowadays, " and I'm afraid that'll be me in a couple years. If I need something to listen to while I'm doing stuff around the house, working out, commuting to work etc, it's usually something that came out last decade, unless I feel like trying something new.
I'll be 28 in 2 months, and the younger kids who consume music now really don't understand. When you get into your late 20s, you don't have nearly as much time and energy as before to try and keep up with all the new music dropping every week. If you're like I was, you depend on your friends a lot to put you on to shit you may have missed or been sleepin on. But when you get to this part of your life, you see your friends less and less for any number of reasons. We all gotta work and keep up with these bills; head home by 11 to get some sleep for your big boy job in the morning. Mfs have girlfriends, kids, families, new hobbies & responsibilities, time or financial restraints. People move further away, and don't feel like driving after a busy day to hang out for a few hours. Money and schedules get tight for some of us (like me) so we can't afford to go to every show like we used to. All this stuff limits the time you used to have to just chill and talk/listen to music all day n nite.
Also labels have changed the way we consume music drastically. I feel like a 27 year old man doesn't have much business being on TikTok if you're not a content creator. The mixtape/pre-soundcloud era is not how you gain motion anymore. And now artists are dropping these bloated 20+ track albums for the sole purpose of you picking 5-8 songs to put on playlists and stream over and over. I'm not gonna be the old head shitting on this generation's music. I can admit when something is well-produced or catchy even if it doesn't necessarily fit my taste or style. At the same time, I'm hearing more and more shit that just isn't for me.
To wrap up a long story, times have changed and it just makes a mf feel old. I gotta keep reminding myself 28 IS NOT OLD! You just learn that music has always been a young man's game for the most part & every generation has a different way of enjoying music. But my goal for this new year is to rekindle my passion and search for good music from every scene and not become a close-minded hatin ass old head. Also keep in touch with my old friends who loved music like I did, even if we gotta link up on discord or online somehow.

If you made it this far drop a artist you want more ppl to listen to or whoever you been listening to a lot lately. Hope yall have a blessed 2024.

I’ve been a music nerd since I was in 3rd grade, I’m 26 and there’s honestly a huge shift in music that I see where people don’t care for albums anymore, even in the datpiff soundclick era people listened to mixtapes fully, now music is given to us in a singles format and it’s over saturated with microwave lowest common denominator music. The good thing about this era is that there are an abundance of great musicians out there, with bandcamp being available there’s no end to the good music you can find, but if you only listen to hiphop then you’re just limiting yourself to what you can listen to. Digging for new music is a chore now and that’s why people say shit like “music isn’t the same” or “music sucks nowadays” when that isn’t that case, it’s just that the actual good music is yet to be found and you have to try a little harder to find it. If you’re a casual listener then I understand not wanting to do that but if you love music you’ll take the time to look for good stuff

As a 27 year old
Discovering new music and artists used to be my passion to the point that I had a Tumblr Blog dedicated to undiscovered underground artists I remember I had Joey Badass on there before any of em blew up
but now a days I just don’t even listen to music on a daily basis anymore, and it sucks because I feel like I’m losing my passion for music but realistically I think I just don’t have the time for it anymore, I’d rather use that time to work on my music or be a management for my younger brother as he makes music as well and has the most potential . And lately I can’t lie I been listening to like Cultural
Music from Spanish to African to Jazz more so then what’s popping at the moment

I'm 22 and around '19-20 when I was 18-19 I noticed a shift in my enjoyment of music. I'll mention I reside in Detroit and I tend to resonate with our sound more than most other cities. Around that time we had some of the best music come out from artists such as Rio Da Yung OG, Teejayx6, Drego & Beno, Bandgang, YN Jay, Tee Grizzly, etc. I can't really determine an exact reason why I consume and feel music differently other than the factors mentioned in this video though. Love your vids btw

For me I’ve been loving music lately because I went to Spain for 4 months and worked hard to learn Spanish. Studied Spanish for a long time in school but became fluent there, in part because i completely switched to listening to music in Spanish. Gives that same feeling of discovery because of the new language and no one back home knows it, despite me listening to mostly mainstream stuff. I started knowing more of the songs than my Spanish friends when we went out, and it helped me improve my speaking and understanding a ton. By the time I came back people didn’t notice an accent. I keep practicing every day for a few minutes at least and I have a sister who is fluent in Spanish as well so that helps. Working on Portuguese next and been getting into some of that music too.

The music is so damn fire, but I do sometimes feel like I miss out on some things dropping. For me it’s worth it for sure and I still find new stuff I enjoy pretty frequently. I have the same habit of listening to one artist at a time, and Spanish music has so many features on everything that you find a lot of artist Cs on artist A songs like you said.

I also started collecting vinyls in the past year or so, and it’s been fun rummaging through my parents stuff and trading vinyls with my siblings. It’s a different way to consume the music and has been refreshing. It is much more time consuming though. It’s cool to have a physical representation of my music taste with the like 30 or so records I have.

Also I love this style of content, keep it up
