So just went through this today and I was shocked how easy it was. This video is very helpful but I think maybe some things have changed now that the State Department is back from COVID backlog so will share my experience. Sorry to be long winded but I was stressing a lot before so want to provide as much detail.

Made an appointment by phone 13 days ago for renewal as my passport expired summer 2019. That was honestly the toughest part. Just keep calling until you get the right person to get you booked, just make sure when you call you are in the 14 day travel window. I actually changed my flight after I got the appointment. This part is a bit confusing to me still. When I made the appointment I was set to travel the day after but regardless of when you tell them on the phone, doesn't seem to really matter the exact date ultimately as long as it is within 14 days of your appointment, not when you call. So when I called they said I had to be traveling in the next 14 days from when I made the call but once I changed my flight after I got the appointment it was technically 18 days. Basically once you get an appointment you are good as long as it's within 14 days of the day you go in. Want to stress though from what I observed the closer the better cause they will make you priority. If this is confusing, it is for me still kind of cause they didn't ask me anything.

Anyway, I went to the DC office today on 19th St. (I live in Baltimore so I'm lucky to be able to just take the train there, with such few locations tough for a lot of people to do this). I had an 8 a.m. appointment. Get there early to be safe, there is a security check-in as it is a government building. Nothing crazy, basically like you get at a football game. You can fill the form out there by hand if you need to. They have them as you walk up to check-in. Check-in was pretty quick even with a little line. Clerk took my application, old passport, travel itenerary and license. She gave me a ticket and said wait to be called. I got called in less than ten minutes, went to another window where you pay the fee, mine was actually only $190. She was super nice, and gave me a confirmation ticket to come back at 11:30 to pick it up. This all seemed too easy. I was out of that process in about 20 minutes.

Went and got breakfast, walked around blah blah.. until it was 11:30. I assumed at this point I would be waiting a while cause it couldn't be this simple. I checked through security again, went to the pickup window gave them the confirmation receipt and they gave me another ticket and said sit and wait to be called. Maybe five minutes later I got called and she handed me an envelope with my old and new passport. I couldn't believe it honestly. I spent maybe 30 minutes total in the place. I was not the only person shocked, I joked with a few people about it and heard people thanking the workers so much for making it easy. I was not asked a single question about my travel. I can't guarantee that as the case for everyone but I was pretty worried for nothing.

I have had so many annoying interactions with government agencies (looking at you USCIS) but this was so seamless. Have your stuff ready and as long as you clear the background check you should be all good. Get an early appointment if you can, there were way more people when I came back at 11:30 so that seems to have helped me a lot but the windows were still moving quickly from what I saw. Show up on time, have your appointment conformation number ready and all your documents. Be friendly and make their job easy and they will make your process easy.

I got my passport 3 days ago, and I was excessively rewatching this video beforehand. This is the best video I’ve seen on passport information:)

I went to the New Orleans agency, and at least for me, the only thing that was different is they didn’t ask me why I was traveling. I was restating what I was going to tell them in my head 20 times, and all they did was ask me to do a pledge, and it really is as simple as he states lol. Make the appointment, have your documents and fees, and with that I got it in 4 hours! Good luck!!!! Thanks!

Thanks to you, I was able to secure the appointment at the closest agency.(30mins. drive from home) My daughter needs her passport(just expired a few days ago) and we're traveling internationally within 14 days. I made a call at 7:59:00 a.m today. I had to navigate through some automated voice prompts (I think it was 1. En or Sp, 2. have you applied or not, 3. traveling within 14 days or not) then was put on hold for a minute or so, then I got connected right away around 8:00:30 a.m. or so.They gave me 4 different time slots for the day before the travel and I took the earliest one. I received the confirmation email as I was speaking to a agent at 8:06am. I pray that everyone who watches your video can get their passports in time.
