Hero essence is not an issue because uve spent a lot $ before the season and have high VIP level. VIP +% essence bonus from AFK applies to seasonal essence too. So it does not matter how u optimize, what you do as low spender/FTP, u wont be able to catch up with an active whale or even a former whale, who decided to stop spending. It`s kinda sad.

For the record, I basically got Brutus S+ for free and he is ruthless in a full Mauler team (Koko+Smokey+Antandra+Odie). I blast through all content with that team comp

So far the devs have been really bad about balancing basic resources. A lot of players would not have hit 240 without the boost before the season, gold traps are plentiful, not to mention how hard it is to get temporal essence. Hope they rethink their structure for upgrade materials because it's not working.
I honestly don't upgrade gear unless it's 60 levels behind me and an important piece for key classes. The only place it really hurts you is Supreme Arena and Dream Realm. But I don't care that much about Supreme Arena, and while I've slipped a little bit in Dream Realm it's not like I fell out of the braket I was already in.

I have 3000 season forging stones and 0 gold to upgrade equipment. I have 300k season manuals and 0 season essence. Why make the proportions so screwed?

I am having the same issue as the pre season I haven’t bought any packs and I am sitting on 2 million books. Essence is my bottleneck. I’m level 320 right now.

It’s getting too repetitive and I am concerned we are heading down the netmarble future revolution path. It’s getting boring and frustrating even as a spender to one not advance anymore and two watch others catching up. If this what each season will be like walking away is feeling like a likely choice now. Holding off on Soren pulling as he’s meh and I’m just not sure what they are even doing anymore. This was a game I was happy supporting but where’s the roadmap and communication from the devs?
