None of this is necessary anymore. In 2023 there's a node operator called "Backdrop" that creates a parametric backdrop. Just lookup "Backdrop" in the asset browser and drag it into your scene.

Only problem with this, the smoothness of that curve is terrible and always shows lines in render (especially in C4D lite version without the backdrop node thing)
