The gelatin form of that porkoroni looked like the gelatin in No disgrace like home, and was likely visually inspires. And Marge and Lisa going to the ballet bears reference to Bart the genius when they all go to the opera. The Ullman shorts have much more in common with season 1 episodes than anything afterwards
