We wanted to include our longer description that has been shared on other channels to give some more context for this reel. Thanks for all of the positivity everyone!

But will they actually remember that?? Actually, they probably will!

Even though your kid might not remember the specific details of a family trip or outing with Dad, they will carry the emotional content of those adventures through life!

There are two types of memory: explicit and implicit

Explicit memory is when you consciously recall something, like the name of your first school or parents birthday.

Implicit memory is when you remember something without consciously thinking about it, like how to ride a bike. This also includes more of an unconscious, emotional recollection.

Your 2-year-old remembering you threw rocks in the water on your camping trip? Explicit.

The warm, fuzzy feelings when you talk about going camping again? Implicit.

So the next time you look at your preschooler and think, “They’ll never remember this, ” you’re right, they probably won’t remember things explicitly.

BUT take comfort in the fact that just because they won’t have total recall of these early years, they will remember the important things that make them better people: parents take care of you, and the world is an exciting place to explore.

And remember, there are lots of ways to create memories with your kids. I like camping and backpacking so that’s just one of the things we do. Do whatever works for your family and enjoy the journey!

See you out on the trail! ✌️

The best memories I have are of my Dad taking me up to London. Just me and him. We would go up on the train, walk through London seeing all the sites, go to the Museums, and then walk back to the train station and go home. He would take the day off from work (especially so that we could go up during the week and thr tourist areas would be quiet) - it was great sharing those days out with him, he taught me a lot about the things that most people dont see around London. Was always the best day. Funny, i rarely remember the trip home, probably fell asleep due to all the walking we did. Those memories are Priceless and worth more than anything money could buy! Nice to know there are other great dads in the world.

You are 100% correct! I'm in tears. Wish more dads understood this. My dad did. Way to go, dad!

I LOVE this!! What a great memory and feeling she'll always have!! One of my favorite memories of my Dad is from over 55 years ago and we were taking a trip to a cabin with a group of other fathers and daughters. I was about five or six. It was winter and snowing, and my dad stopped to pick up a hitchhiker but made him ride in the back of our truck. We had an awesome weekend. My dad's been gone for almost 10 years, and I miss him dearly, but I've got some great memories of him.
