Ethiopia has started the second phase of filling the reservoir of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the upper Blue Nile, according to the authorities in neighbouring Egypt and Sudan, raising tensions before a UN Security Council meeting on the divisive project.
Ethiopia says it informed Sudan and Egypt that it has begun the second phase of filling the dam.
But Cairo and Khartoum say filing it without an agreement will affect the region's stability and security.

Al Jazeera’s Hiba Morgan reports from Sudan’s Blue Nile state near the border with Ethiopia.

So if I am not mistaken what Egyptians and Sudanese are saying is; we can build dams on the Nile but Ethiopia is not allowed despite producing 85% of the water?

Sudan politicians are serving as trojan horse for Egypt. Egypt and Sudan has no morale and legal understanding when they ask Ethiopia to sign binding agreement. What about the time they rejected Ethiopians concern when both share the Nile water 100% leaving Ethiopia and 10 African countries ZERO, what about building Dams without consulting Ethiopia and other Nile basin counties, how about Egypt wastefully cannel the Nile water to the desert, selling to Israel and Arabs without consulting Africa. Nile is Black African resource and should be shared by Black African but not Arabs. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and GAME OVER

How about you ask Sudan how the flood was yesterday? They say we will face water shortage, do not fill the dam but also they get flooded! Ironic!!

The people of sudan must take control of the rightful ownership of their own country's affairs. Sudanese are the most kind and generous people in the world and I am fortunate to have sudanese friends. This is the time, the Sudanese people to say enough is enough and be free from Egypt influence. All the problems we have seen and heard in East Africa have been created by Egypt. God bless Sudan.

Ethiopians natural resources, it’s belongs to Ethiopia, Also Egypt shall be thankful for the every drops 💧 of water 💧 Ethiopians so humble, allows to flow outside (borders),
Unfortunately Egyptians had taken advantage……The people of Ethiopia have no desire to harm the people of Egypt, they only need to get benefit [from the dam]
… congratulations 🥳 for my lovely Ethiopians 🇪🇹👍❤️🥰that Ethiopia officially started filling the Dam!!! 🥰🥰 ❤️

Did the Sudanese/ Egypt consult and have approval on their dam constructions?

While troublesome, isn't this a temporary problem? Once the new dam is filled, the water levels will return to normal as they can't put more water in it. Of course there will be a few years of pain before the dam is all filled up.
