Today, we have a look at the Victron EV Charging Station. This station will be installed in the Big Shed where our new EV, a GWM Ora, parks and charges.
Before this EV charging station gets installed, we will have a close look what's inside, inspect all components and trying to understand how it works.

Thanks to Off-Grid Power System in Ohio for sponsoring this Victron EV Charging Station, so we can all learn how it works and integrates.

I have one. It works perfectly over the last year. It's perfect integrated in the victron universe.

Danke für Deine Videos :)
I installed Victron EVCS (the one without display) about a year ago. I love it ever since!

I have the NS version now for a few months, really happy with it. Scheduled charging and charge throtteling, works with and without victron system, really handy.

I've had one for nearly a year, no real issues. The guys at Victron have been excellent with any firmware bugs. Have it all integrated in to home assistant.

They do have good features, but you need home assistant to make it work properly(needs to upgrade to firm ware 1.29 for additional features). I posted this issue on Victron forum, haven't had a reasonable answer yet so HA (Home Assistant) to the rescue. Auto - uses excess solar and a user configurable amount of battery before it stops. Then it waits till the next day for the sun. No good if you then need to finish the charge later, that takes manual intervention. So HA switch's mine to manual at 9pm and then charges the car to a predetermined kw, based on the Chargers current "Charged amount" vs the kw t I set on the screen in HA. Then in the morning I have a sunrise trigger that switches it back to auto. It needs to use the inbuilt schedules and have a 4th mode, that is auto by solar and then top off according to schedule to a kw of X. Which is what my HA does for me. Not Good... My "Zappi" My energy, does all this automatically, yes it does cost $400 more, but this Victron EV charger needs a Type B RCD which costs $400, Zappi its built in.
That said it works great, in auto once my batteries get to 70% SOC (71% on display) the auto just keeps notching up the amps to match the solar production, so today I was charging the Tesla with 22amps free from the sun to 413km. Tesla can better manage the basic charging functions, but this manages the Auto based on available solar better. Previous vehicle was the PHEV Mitsi (EV Unplugged) and this was a dumb charge car, so the Victron made it better.

Curious the difference in output based upon single or three phase.

It works with Modbus so basically you can control the max power automatically.

You are a person who promotes companies such as EVE and others, promoting and convincing the buyer.

Vitron and their simplicity, other companies would seal this whole internal components, making it look like it's some high-tech stuff. Who knows, esp32 could handle this

does it work to charge when offGrid?does it use all the avilable solar power?

They use the ESP32 in a lot of LORA devices these days.

Hi Andy, does the Ora have V2L ?? I have a victron quattro 2 and use the generator connection to take power from a V2L car to my home

Is it just me or does it seem like the proximity pilot is not connected?
The proximity pilot is used to determine what current the cable is capable of handling. Without it you could plug in a 16 amp cable to a 32 amp EVSE and a 32 amp car, and have 32 amps being drawn through the 16 amp cable. And we all know how that could end, right?

wow, a Victron device that isn't fully potted to prevent you opening it!

How do you connect it to the car? Did it come with a double plug cable?

As a dutch sparky, that thing looks absolutly terrible to install.

Hmm. This plastic housing looks so sketchy. That's no comparison to the other heavy duty Victron stuff. And it's quite expensive in comparison to other known brands.

Hi, I've been looking at the EG 6000XP which seems to streamline everything very simply. Is there a reason why it would not be used in Australia? My husband and I have followed you for 3 years, and always intended to power our off grid home with all your knowlege helping us, but very very sadly, he has past 1:02 away, and I'm now doing it all solo. So it has to be simple. I've had every intension of using victron, because as we have switched to thst for our camper trailer, the EG4 6000XP seems to only need the distribution boards.... is it too good to be true? Not needing this separate car charger to do the car. ???
