During one such lecture in April 1820, Oersted carried out this experiment
that never performed before. Put a copper wire on two wooden pieces. Arrange
a magnetic compass under the wire. Connect positive terminal of the Now connect negative terminal to the other end of the conductor. What do you observe
in the compass ? to the one end of the conductor.

Sir, please correct yourself, you said there will be a formation of an electric field around a current-carrying conductor instead of the "magnetic field" and because of that the magnetic compass is deflecting. It is an interaction of the magnetic field generated by the current-carrying wire and the magnetic field of the tiny magnet in the compass.
