Let’s see how to subtract mixed numbers with unlike denominators and regrouping.

In this lesson, I will show you an example where we need to subtract mixed numbers with different denominators and regrouping. We will start with a quick review of the mixed numbers and the proper fraction.

We need to regroup when the fraction of the second mixed number is greater than the fraction of the first mixed number. In the example shown, we will regroup to find the difference of the mixed numbers.

This time, we will subtract the mixed numbers vertically. After regrouping, to find the difference of these two mixed numbers, first, we subtract the fractions, and then, the whole numbers.

That’s all for today, see you in the next mixed numbers videos.
