Why does everyone want to go to college right away?: Jordan Turner at TEDxCHSNED

You don't need to plan out your life at 18. Too many high school students make their choice of college, or even whether to go to college, about what the believe will be their future career. They pay no heed to the fact that a huge percent of students change their major during college, some even change their careers numerous times. Many careers that will exist in the future do not now exist and vice verse, and what students major in may not even relate to what their eventual career focuses on. Anyway, college may not be right for everyone...

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. This video touched me a lot. I have quite a few different  interest and at first I thought college wouldn't really help at all, I was just in a rush because it was expected from me. But, when I thought about it I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it for me or for my family. I rushed my self. So I ended up going to a local college to see if it really is for ME! Long story short, I'm more interested in fashion, and makeup, and traveling, at this point its a really rocky journey for me :/

I'm 25, and I would like to go to Medical school to become a plastic surgeon. I will never be able to afford it. And that's my only fall out. I've had enough time to mature and know myself and know the world. I love science, medicine and helping people.

A gap year??? As someone from the UK (but not England) only the wealthy manage a gap year. The difference is in Scotland university is free with entrance based upon merit not financial status
