How to wire up a NZ trailer lighting socket #1949

Another of the new 'Basic Skills' family of short videos, Here I'm showing how to wire up a NZ type 7 pin flat type trailer lighting socket.

These sockets and the associated wiring often get damaged due to corrosion and frequently require replacement.

This short video shows you a few tips and tricks on how to do a tidy job, and also which circuit each of the coloured wires relates to - this helps with diagnostics too should you have a lighting fault.

Paying a garage to change one of these plugs is expensive and really, not necessary, its an easy job and all you'll need is a screwdriver and something to strip back the wires - ideally a pair of side cutters..

These 'Basic Skills' videos are NOT meant to be a decisive, all encompassing, training video on teaching you all the various aspects of professional skills, no, not in the slightest!

Its a short video showing the basics giving you a starting point on how its done, the tools you need and a few tips along the way...

Any questions then please leave them in the comments section below and I'll do my best to get back to you asap...

Am going to give this a go as bought a trailer and the old guy who we brought it from, broke the trailer plug on our van. As he connected it up. Tried to say it didn’t work and the pins were pushed in. Funny as we had use it when hired a trailer a month ago

Nice informative video, i also noticed some plugs has the black wired in a the reverse light from the car. If I bridge the black and brown wires to have both tail lights on, will it cause a problem if the reverse signal (black wire) is also powered at the same time?

Good video. Was looking for what colour wire to is used on a UK 13 pin caravan plug to connect to an NZ 12 pin socket so the towing vehicle can charge the onboard leisure battery? Can you advise and/or do you have a video? Cheers :) Liking your channel.
